I need to get my hands on about 6" of 1.5mm clear plastic rod. I've found at least one place I can order it online, but I'd just as soon buy some in a store. Any ideas where a person looks for something like that? Model shop? RC car/plane place? Craft shop? Fishing tackle shop?

Close--if Joanna Lumley is to be believed. Since I've got a TARDIS in my back yard, I figured it was time to grow up ( )and build a proper sonic screwdriver, instead of using a tire pressure gauge. I'm going for the classic TOS look, with a few modifications. (Pictures at a later date.) I found a LED flashlight that has a glowing *heheh...heheh...* shaft and a whistle on the end. I wound up cutting that down and then sticking an appropriately sized pen into it for the top part. If you remember the old series, the top has a bullet-shaped emitter that is centered in a ring by three posts. Right now, because I built this thing off a flashlight, without the emitter in place, a cool blue target shape is projected on things from the end of the device. I'm thinking if I use lucite rods for the emitter, at minimum they'll light up when I use it and in a perfect world they'll project a blue image onto whatever I'm "using" the sonic screwdriver on.
