I had their debut release "The Cars" on vinyl, "Candy-O" on 8 track, and "Panorama" on cassette but never bought any Cars music after that. "Drive" is their best song IMHO, which is weird because I generally don't like slow paced synth driven music, but Drive is very atmospheric with great lyrics.

He definitely "had a great run" with a successful band, a hot Czech model of a wife and a bunch of (I assume) healthy kids. What more do you need?

    Rest in peace, sir. :(
Drive was just the kind of song you could hit play, sit back, close your eyes, and glide upon the melody and lyrics, it was so smooth.

No longer in Heartbeat City. :(

Well, he had a pretty good life. He married Paulina Porizkova in her prime...

yep - part of that "great run" he pulled off. Yeah she's not unattractive in a "sexy accent epically beautiful" sorta way if that's your thing. I just did some number crunching and Ocasek was already 34 when the Cars first record came out. Kind of a late start in major commercial success but he made up for it over the next few years that's for sure.

It's amazing that in a thread about the death of Ric Ocasek, everyone is mooning about a song sung by Benjamin Orr.

Edit to add: Still a fantastic song though.

RIP Anorexic Dana Carvey. The hip-shaking that the twins did at about the 3:15 mark in this video were, uh, VERY stimulating to my teenage self.
