Big Sis wants to expand the body scanners and pat downs to buses, trains, and boats.

    http://thehill.com/homenews/adminis...-scanners-could-be-trains-boats-and-the-metro-

Slippery slope my ass. Once they rammed this shit down our throats at the airport, it was only a matter of time before it would show up at the Greyhound and Amtrak stations. And, of course, Federal buildings.

We're rapidly approaching that point when we're no longer in soft tyrrany and pass into police state.

    Nobody uses Amtrak anyway.

    But I agree she's a fuckin idiot.

Nothing will come of it though, imo.

How about at mall entrances and schools? Have a rent-a-cop feel your junk before you get a movie ticket or go in to buy a Big Mac?

This shit is getting out of hand. We're American citizens, not criminals and I'm damned tired of being treated like a criminal when I've done nothing.

And thanks to technology, the government doesn't even have to resort to kicking in doors and dragging people out at 3am never to be seen again. Are you a suspect? We can lock your credit or debit card with a click of a mouse. There goes buying anything. Restrict your movements at will, track you from the time you leave home thanks to the GPS in your phone and car, cameras to watch every move you make and everyone you talk to.

Fuck, I'm pissed. 1984 was suppusoed to be a warning, not a fucking how-to manual.

    Fantastic.

The terrorists won't even have to strike. They can just wait for us to die from radiation overdose.

Now, instead of the slim possibility of dying suddenly in a terrorist plot we can all look forward to a guaranteed slow death from radiation-induced cancers!

Nope, we sure can't. Because that'd be profiling, and TPTB would rather subject everyone to totalitarian bullshit rather than focus on the groups and, yes, ethnicities that have the higher threat probability, because Gods forbid we offend anybody...

Normally I'd agree, but keep in mind that the biggest problem with terrorism we had prior to 9/11 was of the home grown variety, and they looked like your typical white mid-western dudes. Still, some common sense would be nice instead of PC bullshit.

At what point does Washington understand that $50 billion worth of hassle is more devastating than a $50 million terrorist attack?

Okay, folks......I just thought of something:

what's to stop terrorists from becoming TSA agents (or train/bus agents) and letting their "buddies" slip through their screenings?

Think about it - even if other "real" agents catch one of the terrorists, as long as they make everyone think that they "acted alone" nobody will be wise to the ruse. Trust me, it wouldn't take much planning to funnel the ringers into the line with the planted fake TSA agent. This isn't exactly Oceans 11 level planning here.

Not a goddamn thing. Security theater, all of it. Invasive, offensive to any decent human being, insulting-to-anyone-with-a-modicum-of-intelligence security theater.

    Yep, security theater:

    1. No terrorists are caught at the screening - the deterrent is working!

    2. A terrorist slips through with tragic results - we need to review our
policies and tweak them if needed. Maybe fire some people.

Screening on buses would be stupid. You want to take out a bus, all you have to do is pull up alongside it on the freeway and open fire.

Nine years after 9/11, is it possible we're finally coming out of our hysterical, fear-driven, wrap-us-all-in-bubble-wrap, safety-at-all-costs paranoia?

I still say that if I wanted to blow up a bunch of people, I'd set off my dynamite/ball bearing vest when I'm smack dab in the middle of the tightly-packed security line.

Probably end up killing more people that way, even.

Screenings on a train would also be a waste of time and money because the easiest way to blow up a train would be to just rig the track down the line somewhere. There is no reason to get on and die too. In fact the majority of train lines are above ground at some point so you could drive up and shoot a passing train or just blow it up with a car bomb. TSA is a huge waste of money already, expansion would be a bigger waste.

    Not even that.

    Movie theater. Multiple theater rooms.

Then hit the exits as everyone who isn't dead is scrambling to get out. On a busy day with a hot movie you could probably take out a couple thousand people.

Since this thread is going nowhere interesting anyway, I gotta ask something.

How does saying "Don't fly" make someone an apologist? It doesn't. This thread title is fucking retarded, and it's putting a rash on my ass every time I read it.

You don't even have to do that.

What makes Greyhound buses special? Nothing.

If you're a terrorist who wants to kill everyone on a bus just get on a city bus. I'm sure New York buses are jammed with people during rush hour traffic.

In fact you could time it so that several buses get taken out at the same time (or within a couple minutes of each other).
