None of that would help me and I can't imagine wanting to live in a Zombie infested wasteland, anyway.
The ammo is for travel. If you can carry more, of course, feel free. But the book assumes if your position is compromised, this is on your ready-pack to GTFO.
I always remember that old adage from the film "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane".... "So many assholes, so few bullets". And it's so true... Now, imagine those assholes have all been turned into zombies.
World War Z is a better read. A companion book to the survival guide. (The one written by Max Brooks, anyway.)
^Day by Day Armageddon is much better. More Zombie Horror and none of Max Brook's political claptrap.
I'm afraid I don't have a very strategic zombie plan. I just know that weapons would be the Mossberg 590 Military with bayonet fixed and as much ammo as I can carry and probably a machete. A 9mm and a couple clips of hollowpoints wouldn't hurt to have either. My house is actually fairly well set up, as far as having a decent defensive perimeter. 4' chain link fence all the way around. Throw a lock on the gate to be on the safe side. Zombies aren't huge on going over things and it gives me a reasonable standoff distance. Good fields of fire in all directions except along the side of the garage ( ) I'd probably want to chop a hole in the roof for better lines of sight. Then I'd move to the M14. But right now when I lose power I'm boned. Guess the thing to do is head for the hills with a couple people you can trust. If you're not around any people, you're not around any zombies. Just realized, The Dog would probably wake me up if any zombies approached while I slept so I might not actually need anyone else if push came to shove.
Truth. My home town alone has a population of just over 12,000. and some of the little squirrely fuckers might take two shots depending on if we've got L4D zombies or Night of the Living Dead zombies.
As someone who has actually carried 900 rounds before, let me just say that you aren't going to be very mobile for very long doing so. That shit is fucking heavy.
