Yeah it could be a bitch even here in Augusta GA. It's raining now and if the cold front hits while the roads are wet we will have black ice all over during Wednesday morning rush hour. My son just got hit a few days ago and his brand new Jeep got totaled. I don't need to follow suit with a wreck of my own!
reminds me of something my mother-in-law said: many years ago I was getting ready to relocate my family from Arizona to Alabama. I was going to have to drive through an area in the Great Plains (I think Oklahoma) that had a bad outbreak of deadly hanta virus. My mother-in-law actually said that we should all hold our breath while driving through Oklahoma just to be safe.
It is 67 today and 70 in the foothills. Nice, bright, and sunny. There is supposed to be four days of rain later on this week though but for now it is shorts and t-shirt weather. Have fun with the cold, folks, and try not to get frostbite.
I have heard that golfers down here in Floriduh might have to wear sweaters and light jackets. Who am I kidding these fucking human freak weaklings are bundled up like it is freezing down here. What the fuck is wrong with these people? It was somewhat cool this morning and I had to turn the air conditioning off in the car.
As a relocated NYer, I do get a kick out of Angelenos (currently dressed in fleece jackets, wool hats, board shorts, and flip-flops) bitching about how "cold" it is...at 67 degrees.
Well I just got home and shouldn't have to go anywhere for 38 hours or so. Everything is closing down tomorrow. No point in even going outside, though I probably will at some point. Might be a good idea to start my car and let it run for a while…
The statement it could get as low as -53c at some point makes me curious what the largest temperature contrast is that has existed on Earth due to weather. The fact that one part of our planet can be a full 100 c colder/warmer than another point is pretty impressive.
I remember that time I visited your neck of the woods and it was about 95 degrees/95% humidity at 10 F**KING O'CLOCK AT NIGHT.
The largest recorded temperature change in one place over a 24-hour period occurred on January 15, 1972 in Loma, Montana, when the temperature rose from −54 to 49 °F (−47.8 to 9.4 °C). The most dramatic temperature changes occur in North American climates susceptible to Chinook winds.
SC is the same in the summer, but we do get a breeze. I've always lived in humid areas though, it's so much better when there's a dry heat.
I thought charlotte was bad. I am not even blowing out fog yet. There is no frost. I have not even bought an ice scraper in years. They don't even sell them here. The people are dressed in layers with bulky jackets on. The crazy people are wearing gloves you use for picking up snow and skiing, not the cheap ass fabric ones. They are looking at me like I am crazy. These are the same people who swim in 90+ degree water and think it is refreshing. It is a fucking hot tub the size of a pool. I do not think I have ever noticed myself sweating while swimming until I moved to Floriduh. I could go swimming now, but they all shut down their pools. It still gets up to 80 here in February which is really freaky and abnormal if you ask me. If there is ever a huge weather shift towards cold the people of Floriduh are the first to die.
Grew up in Florida, hate the weather there. Lived in New York for about a decade, loved the winters. Now living in Georgia, would love to have Northeast weather here. My favorite type of weather is wet slushy snow, wind blowing, grey skies.
Walking outside at three in the morning and hitting a wave of heat and humidity is really wrong. From march to the end of November you might find it comfortable a bit before sunrise. About ten minutes after that sun hits it is gone.
They thaw, I think. Fucking lizards all over the place around here. Literally you have a tough time spitting and missing one.
Wut? Charlotte actually has weather. We're having lows in the 20s and 30s, and highs in the 40s and 50s. That's right about normal for this time of year.
In Arizona in the summer it's not uncommon to have the nations high temp and low temp on the same date: in the White Mountains (the towns of Alpine or Hannagens Meadow for example) it might be 30 degrees fahrenheit at night on July 20. The daytime temperature in Bullhead City might be 116 degrees fahrenheit at 5:00 PM also on July 20.
oh yeah! Same with Georgia this time of year especially away from the coast like here in Augusta. Much of Georgia is generally slightly warmer than NC but it might be in the low 30's at night and low 60's during the day.
