Famous director and indulger of underage sex, Roman Polanki gets arrested in Zurich for the 1978 warrant Only taken 31 years to arrest him! Figured the whole boning a 13 year old makes this a RR thread than MC...
Few things are as satisfying as a child rapist being brought to justice. Maybe they'll show one of his flicks on the flight back to the U.S.
Did he actually rape her? What does she say about it? The woman herself (the former 13 year old who is now in her 40s and married with kids) says she wants the case tossed. She didn't say though whether she considers herself to have been raped. If she considers that she was raped, well then, nice work. You thought you got away with it you old fart, nobody expects the American Inquisition, bitch! Enjoy Bubba's attentions... OTOH if she doesn't consider herself to have been raped, pursuing this case is a waste of fucking money.
The then 13-year old Samantha testified that Polanski performed a private photo shoot of her, got her drunk and drugged up, then raped her vaginally and anally. ETA: Polanski admitted to the charge in a plea bargain, but still fled the country.
I trust a now-grown woman with the maturity of years of marriage and her own kids behind her, to know if she was raped or not, you imbecile. It would be different if she were still 13. But she isn't. And if she now says she does not consider it rape... well, do you know how much it costs to go about getting someone hauled out of another country, with all the diplomatic BS and such like that must be gone through? The money could be better spent else where.
^^Um the law considers it rape regradless of whether the former underage victim does. In fact it is her opinion that has no standing.
I can't believe there are some people sympathetic to Polanski. Even a French government minister expressed outrage at his arrest. The guy jumped bail for quite a sickening crime. Why shouldn't he be arrested and tried, now that he's caught? I guess him being rich and famous, he supposed the law didn't actually apply to him.
The guy rapes a 13yo and flees from justice but because he's a famous Movie director and has many freind's in Hollywood we're supposed to forget about it?
Statutory rape is what it is. Doesn't matter what the girl thinks about it now. He should be tried in the standard manner. People are only complaining because he's a good director...ergo in our media society criminals are no longer criminals if they make good movies.
I could be naive, but I think the fact that the Swiss arrested him at all means extradition will happen. Provided of course that the US wants him. Listening to CNN yesterday on the radio, it seems like the original judge has some questions about some prosecutorial impropriety, but he acknowledges that the only way to get it straightened out is for Mr. Polanski to return to the US and appear before the court.
If he manages to get out of Switzerland and back to France he can certainly stop it. I imagine the Swiss are holding him without bail but you never know if they might do something silly and give him bail. (Being a known bail jumper and all that)
When you arrest on an out of area warrant, you hold the person until the issuing authority decides if they want him or not. It's SOP around the world. By arresting him at all, the Swiss have shown that they're willing to hold him.
The strange thing is, he has visited Switzerland for years in the past and never got in trouble. He even has a house here... Why did they take him this time?
This time, the US Marshall's Fugitive division had enough lead time to make arrangements with the Swiss.
Quite entertained how parts of the French government and Hollywood are displaying their opinion that It's Okay To Drug And Fuck A 13 Year Old If You're A Big Shot Director. There's even a petition! Diddums!
Under what excuse would he fight it? He was tried in a US court and found guilty. He skipped out of the country before the sentence hearing. Delaying it will not stop it.
