The Thief Executive says he's scared of maintenance costs. (Everything else was covered, including overruns which would be born by the winning bidder). How do those maintenance costs compare to the cost of adding more lanes to I-4? Or if I-4 isn't expanded how do we calculate the loss of having an 8 lane parking lot between Orlando and Tampa with gas at $4 a gallon. Of course, the governor doesn't give a shit, because he has his own private jet and everyone else (including the Cabinet and Legislators...not to mention the great unwashed) can drive.
Nobody in power seems to get it. They've all bought into this logic: "We have a trillion-plus dollar deficit, but cutting billion-dollar programs doesn't help because each is only a small part of the total." Get ready to see the wealth in this country vanish. Hyperinflation is coming, because the politicians cannot reduce spending and raising taxes is not feasible. The only way to square this circle is to run the printing presses. Anyone who objects to cuts in entitlements is going to get entitlement cuts one way or another. We're going to have to accept one of the following: (1) reduced benefits in current dollars; (2) benefits that are in the dollar amounts promised, but the dollars are far less valuable. If this be the case, it would be better to avoid the inflation so as not to weaken our international trade position.
The scary thing is that this is the one thing that might actually cause the liberals to fight. Can you imagine how absurd it would be to have a true civil war with no boundaries? Can you imagine how absurd it would be that it would be fought over the right to pay off the debt?!
These democratic law makers should be impeached for not showing up for work and removed from office in absentia. To refuse to vote because you know you might lose is just pathetic, third world bullshit. This is the problem with liberals, they are all about "democracy" when it suits their needs. Otherwise they are against the democratic process.
Yep, the Republicans are NEVER opportunistic and NEVER manipulate parliamentary procedures to their advantage!
Well, they were there and voted even though they lost on Obamacare. It was the democrats who used a tactic to win by a 51% majority. Manipulating procedures is one thing, refusing to participate even though its your paid job to do so, is quite another.
The studies we read in management class demonstrated that only public service management exceeded private sector pay/benefits schedules...
How long do those Dems have to be gone to be declared vacating their offices so the Governor can name replacements to feel the vacant seats? I read this at another site suggesting how Walker should deal with the Dems... He should do that play hardball.
In Wisconsin it turns out that the public employees are being asked to contribute a bit more to their own benefits (health ins and pension), and that's the source of the outcry (plus they may be trying to change Wis. to a 'right to work' state). That's what's being demanded of the poor impoverished taxpayer-funded unions, that they have to contribute a larger proportion of their own benefits. Not a pay cut. Not a reduction in nominal benefits. Slightly higher deductions. Well boo-fuckin-hoo.
With the Mississippi P.E.R.S., the employee has to contribute 7.25% into the system. How does that rate with other states?
You're both delusional. Gubmint workers in the past decade have been raking in more and more in relative terms than ever before in history. It's gross, unsustainable, and thankfully, the party is nearing an end. For now. Obviously the excesses and fat and super pensions, and taxpayer subsidized health care will return, but for now at last, the tide is sucking less and less out of taxpayers pockets. I'd wager that for every study purporting to show public workers earn less than or equal to their private-sector counterpart, you could find two or more studies that show the unvarnished truth (i.e. that the first study is erroneous, distorted, skewed, biased, wrong, lies, misstatements and exaggerations, etc.). E.g.:
so the Reason Foundation is less biased than an independent researcher that I linked to? Oh that's right, that report was by someone who doesn't agree with your preconceived notion so it must "libruhl" propaganda. Reason Foundation doesn't have an axe to grind...no sir....
I've heard rumblings that Moonbeam is even talking about limiting collective bargaining for CA state employees.
There's good reasons why my friend and I are moving from NY to Texas instead of to Florida during 2011 (along with families and savings to invest in a new life). We shopped them both the past 12 months, and Florida fails because it's the kind of place more likely to punish success, you know, basically purple (transitioning from red to blue), with anecdotal traits such as it's more union-friendly, old people will need health care to be paid by Fla residents, etc. etc. In simple terms, it's got more people that think like you, I'd have to be an idiot to want to pay for the kind of benfits you think are just (well, that you argue on WF are just anyway). When it comes to real life decisions, you can't fight facts - although in liberal and academic terms you can argue and masturbate all you like on bulletin boards about how right you're certain you are. Results.
Not this year. Not next. But unless something changes drastically, within 5-10 years. I'm told the 150% debt-to-GDP ratio is a breaking point (it certainly was for Greece!), and, by my estimation, that will happen in about 14 years (assuming 2%/year growth GDP and -3%/year shrinkage of the deficit). If something isn't done by then, the whole public sector is going to crash.
They have offered concessions already, the Governor will not negotiate with them at all. The source of the outcry is taking away their right to collectively bargain. Thats how much you understand of the situation, nothing.
New Yorkers not wanting to move to Florida? Horrors! It's the end of the world! Punish success...no income tax and no intangibles tax...low property tax rates and housing rates in the shitter, plus a governor and legislator determined to let everyone rape the environment. I don't know what kind of parallel universe you're living in, but if it keeps you from moving to Florida, great! We already have enough assholes from New York telling us how great everything was up north.
Oh and here's a report that directly debunks yours. I say your's is a biased piece of claptrappery. You won't even read this one, but I know that won't stop you from dismissing it. LINK
Heh. Really? That's the best you got? I say we're fleeing NY because we can't stand it, and that we chose TX over FL because of superior policies, I give specifics, some examples, and you come up with a couple of non-responsive statements and a half-assed insult? That's swell.
As long as it's only the wealth from the wealthiest that vanishes, though more likely it will (unfortunately) be from the rest of us.
That would be equivalent to trying to convince you to move to Florida and as far I'm concerned Texas can have you. And if you can say with a straight face that Florida is in any way, shape or form "union friendly" you're too far gone to worry about anyway.
Nutball, if a state is broke, where exactly do you expect them to come up with the money to pay for the never increase in benefits and salaries? For public employees to demand taxpayers pay for them to receive increases in salaries, retirements and etc. when many of the taxpayers themselves are not receiving pay increases, and are in fact losing money on their retirements, is simply wrong and unrealistic.
Read what I wrote again, I said union friendly relative to Texas. Duh. And it's funny, since you're kind of the source of that: I see you're from FL and you've been weeping all week about unions. Nobody I know from Texas weeps for unions. Anyway, the idea of us moving to FL, well, that ship has basically sailed. FL was a finalist along with TX and Atlanta, it has some real good data, but as I've said it's population is growing to have the kind of attitude you express here at WF. No, not the part about you being a prick (as you say, you have many NY'ers already so no doubt you have that covered nicely). Nor do I refer to your shortsightedness that based on a handful of my WF replies that you may have read you'd happily forego the idea that I'm bringing wealth from NY to invest in new jobs in TX (or FL, if it had turned out that way). But it's that you reek of the hypocrisy and tone of the NE liberal intellectual that would discourage pretty much anyone except those of like mind from claiming you as a neighbor.
Since I grew up on the Redneck Riviera I think you're just a touch off base. I also expect that there are a couple of people here who are laughing their asses off at your assessment of me. At least you've got some entertainment value. Bringing your wealth to Florida...don't do us any favors.
Ah, so you're one of those prick transplants you're afraid of, gotcha. And in point of fact, my buddy and I are more the cool dude transplants variety, I just play a dick on tv.
uh ... no...Redneck Riviera refers to the southernmost part of Florida...the panhandle this really is funny a NY asshole calling a Florida fishhead a Northeastern Liberal. This gets better and better!
