I was an assistant manager for Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse in Tyler, TX. One night when closing, I did not double check a sliding door to see if it was locked. During the night, it opened and triggered the alarm at the police station.

Well, let's have a little fun at Dayton's expense. Place bets on how long he keeps his next job. The winner gets... $5? Sure. Or lots of posreps? Something.
You know the really sad thing here is that some of you are every bit as obsessed with Dayton over this movie as he is with Orci and Abrams. You brought up a thread about how he might have the opportunity to talk down to Orci, then teased him when he expressed an interest in doing so. And really, what would the point be? Yet you're doing the same shit to Dayton, and he's every bit as responsive to it as Orci would be to Dayton ranting at him. Christ, I don't even like Dayton, and I don't agree with his views on the franchise or on pretty much anything else, but I can still see that you people are every bit the obsessive that he is.
YOU. ARE. AT. FAULT. IN. THAT. ONE. (we need a Shatner style speaking smilie) You weren't fired because his family complained. You were fired because he ESCAPED. Had you done a proper job he'd still be in jail.
Except Abrams Trek. You are the two most notorious NuTrek haters on the board. Not that I'm saying you don't have the right to that opinion, I'm just pointing out that there is more of a tie between the two of you, especially regarding Star Trek, than you perhaps realize.
And this post is why you can't hold a job. You clearly are retarded. You're supposed to prevent him from escaping the hospital. That means being right there to stop him, having him cuffed/shackled to the bed (or flexcuffs), willing to use force and fight and in a worst case scenario shoot him to prevent escape. In fact with this post I'm not even believing you anymore. I think you're bullshitting and you never held a job in a prison or jail.
^ Not to necessarily defend Dayton in this case as I don't know the specifics, but usually a guard on duty at the jail would not be the one leaving his post to go to the hospital as escort. Imagine the fuss if he'd left the guy on the floor and he had died. If Dayton did go to the hospital or was in charge and did not send someone, he guilty as heck. On the other hand jail brass have been known to use scapegoats to save their own skin.
While I agree that Dayton has clearly been a moron and that anyone would be stupid to hire him, I'm wondering why on earth he's so open about this stuff. There's no way I'd disclose that much of my personal history here.
Yeah....... Here's how it works.... A guy gets sick. Medical is called. If sick enough the guy is transported to the jail hospital (if they have one) or the emergency room if necessary. He's escorted by one officer at minimum. Should be two and in most places it is. NO INMATE GOES ANYWHERE WITHOUT AT LEAST ONE OFFICER WITH HIM. They don't leave a post empty. There are other officers who will get sent. There are going to be enough officers to cover any holes made by a medical detail. Posts that must be manned at all times will not get pulled. Where I work I've seen up to 12 officers getting pulled to go take idiot inmates to the jail hospital or the emergency room. Dayton was probably doing checks, discovered the guy, and the shift commander made the decision to send Dayton once it was determined the guy was sick enough to go. (although given that the inmate "revived" and escaped he wasn't sick enough apparently) So yes corrections officers will go on details. First there is no way Dayton was in charge of anything. He's an idiot. Second if they didn't send Dayton there is no way they could get away with firing Dayton for the escape since he wouldn't be the officer that allowed it to happen. He'd have a nice lawsuit on his hands. So to me, they sent Dayton and he let the guy escape and he got fired for it. Third as I said above no inmate will be sent anywhere without an officer being sent with him. We, where I work, even escort dead inmates to the morgue to make sure they are dead. The odds of things being different where Dayton is when it comes to handling inmates out side of the jail is slim. All inmates will be escorted by at least one officer (but it should always be two). Fourth, did I mention I don't believe Dayton was in charge of shit?
We might agree that the movie sucks, but we each have our own reasons for that. And the two of us not liking that movie still doesn't change the obsessive behavior some of the posters here are showing toward Dayton because of it.
Maybe you haven't noticed, but right or wrong, folks here have issues with Dayton that go far beyond (and date back far before) his opinion of Abrams Trek. The "I'm being persecuted soley for my opinions" routine isn't going to be any more effective here than it was at TrekBBS.
Oooh really? That's a tricky away around not being allowed to say something negative about a job candidate.
Yep. You can ask if you would rehire the person. Many companies don't like answering even that question though so it really depends on what company you left.
Have you ever read his diary thread? It's clear that he thinks he's someone important, that he lives this fantasy that one day he will be a person of note and that his writings will be looked back on with great fascination. Remember, this is the man that thought he could be the only guy in history to get sacked from a fast food chain, a department store and a jail (in two days no less) to go on and be President. Oh, but he's seen the reality now and has downgraded to the state senate. The answer to your question is "because he's stupid". I really don't think there's anything more to it than that.
You might have noticed I was addressing the level of obsession some of you seem to have with him and nothing at all about Dayton himself. In other words the pot calling the kettle black.
I've always answered with a yes or no. There have been times when I did fire people because they weren't performing to standards. Some of them had a lot of shit going on in their personal lives at the time that were interfering with their jobs. Those folks knew why they were being terminated. They also knew they had a job to come back to when they got their shit together. At least for me, I don't fire people, they get themselves fired. I am just the guy who completes the paperwork.
