    Take Montreal... not nearly as many junkies and you can get by with minimal French skills, so long as you use them.
    Rent's a lot cheaper too.

    I probably need to find an island, I'm not sure I could deal with either Europe's or Canada's cold. I could live quite a while in South America on my current savings but I just don't get the feeling of safety and security that a Western Nation brings to the table.

    If you are anti cold then Montreal is out (although they do have a decent subway in the core, and underground sidewalks for getting around downtown). But Vancouver has Seattle-like mild weather.

    [edit] Although if you really looking to move, Seattle isn't a bad bet. Washington State has the highest % of it's economy derived from exports out of all the states, so while not immune to US economic problems, it's a bit more insulated. Not to mention the city gets over 99% of it's electricity from renewables and nuclear. Combined with a robust public transit system, the core of which runs on electricity (Seattle never tore down it's trolley wire, all the old streetcar lines are electric trolley bus, plus some streetcars and an underground Metro). So again, more insulated from energy price shocks.

    Already? If you don't mind me asking, what's wrong with Austin. I'm interested as I've only heard good things about the city.

    Come out and visit Seattle once I get back. Anne's already out there, so we should be settled in relatively quickly once I ETS.
