Okay, I'm having some constipation issues, but there's twist - and I can't find anything on the web about my particular problem. But let me preach on:

Starting about a week or so ago, I could not poop unless I took Exlax. Thus, I had to have my last two BM with an Exlax assist. So yesterday afternoon I took some, but it's been over 24 hours now and I still haven't pooped!

Far cry from the 6 to 12 hours they claim!

Also, I smell feces all day. It's like a faint smell, but constant, and a nasty chemical smell too. Obviously there's some bad mojo going on deep in my innards, and the smell is wafting up into my throat or something.

BTW I drink plenty of water throughout the day, and eat as much fiber as I can. And, I get plenty of exercise too. But I can't find anything about this constant feces smell 24/7. I do not feel very bloated or in pain or anything.

Exlax is designed for "occasional constipation" but I surely can't let several day of waste ferment inside me - I have to do something to try to flush myself. But now even Exlax is working. What gives here?

See a doctor. Overuse of laxatives can counter-intuitively worsen constipation, as can too much fiber.

Buy some fiber pills and try those. You might also consider giving yourself an enema. If you're really desperate, go to the pharmacy and ask for a bottle of Xprep. Its what they give you to clean your colon out before sticking a scope up your ass. Expect to spend several hours on the shitter once it kicks in.

Yes, I didn't think about that. Obviously I need some "industrial strength" help.
I vaguely remember taking something similar when when I had the colon camera thing done to me.

I've never had more trouble BMing since I was on morphine in the hospital.

:jayzus: stop coming to us and go to a fucking doctor. Can't take more than 4 hours out of your day to figure out what's wrong.

dude-you could be looking at something serious here, like a knotted bowel. the ex-lax just makes your shit liquid enough to get through.

    GO TO THE ASS DOCTOR!

Yeah, I might have to bite that bullet and use some vacation time. Wish the doctors worked weekends! The ER can only do so much.

I just figured someone on WF would have experienced the "smell feces all day" thing and could tell me what caused it for them.

Regardless, they might be able to help me without an enema, which would be great. If I don't BM by the end of the day I'll make an appointment to get my ass in there (no pun intended).

    Only when I'm at work.

Once I'm off the clock, that smell clears right up.

    Doctor.

If you have an obstruction or anything like that, you could go into septic shock very, very quickly. Nearly lost one of the engineers I work with a couple of years back because of a similar situation.

    It's probably nothing...but don't risk it.

Had a BM this morning! :dancer:Not awe-inspiring + complete, but good enough. I could do a great gym workout with no fear of pooping myself from all the backed up pressure, so that's a plus!

I don't care...you must see a doctor. That smell is a very dangerous sign and horrible things can happen suddenly if you are obstructed or knotted.

Stool smell is bacteria and if it's backing up into your throat and sinuses then you could end up infected with something like E-Coli, as well.

Please...please don't be like Techman and avoid going to the doctor until it kills you. Just go, and find out for sure...we are not doctors and you need tests and expert advice!

Yeah, remember when Techman had chest pains, and wouldn't get his ass to a doctor?

Have we learned nothing from that?

    What Tamar said.

Even if things are looking better now, you had some weird symptoms. Don't mess around with intestinal problems. If you get an infection in your bowels, it can kill you VERY quickly. Better safe than sorry.

Don't be (as D says) a commemorative smiley.

Thanks, but now it's a four day military weekened so the hospital will be on a small crew until Tuesday. Still, I will see if the smell goes away or gets worse just in case I need to go to the ER.

I think oldfella's just full of shit. :rimshot:

I really, really want to come up with some absurdly bad DiY medical advice, but to tell the truth, I'm stumped. Besides, I'd feel bad if I did and he died.

    Another vote for "Doctor."

Mystery solved! I seem to have a grip on my BM now (ewww) but the plot thickens. Now I am smelling something burning all day! It's a phantom smell (I googled it). Noboody else can smell it, but my nostrills and back of my throat are catching hell, like I'm next to a forest fire, but more of a chemical smell.

It started this morning. If it continues (or I have siezures orsomething) I will get to a doctor. It's really annoying!

Because the problem went away for a few days at around the same time as a couple of healthy BM, so I figured the constipation was causing the bad smell all along. The smell just came back today, and it really is more of a burned smell versus human waste, though it is still very much harsh and chemical-ish.

It wasn't two weeks straight. Regardless, I'm keeping an eye out for other symptoms like headaches or even more mental confusion than normal.

Dude, seriously, go see a doctor. If you have to take time off, then go to an after hours clinic or a "doc in a box" (like a doctors walk in clinic). If a you have tried colase (stool softener) and a fleet enema with no to poor results then:

Stop eating for a couple days. You'll live.

Don't drink anything but water. Give your bowels time to clear out. (Contrary to popular belief you don't need to do anything but drink plenty of water to achieve this)

Don't take any medicine/fiber pills or powder at all unless directed to by a doctor.

Get you're fucking lazy ass to a fucking doctor you dumb blockhead.

If something is wrong in your intestines and it decides to go full out on you then you could find yourself dead within hours.

Bowel obstructions are nothing to fuck with.

It is no joke that if that is what you have, you can die within hours.

Stop being stubborn and haul tush to the freaking doctor....even if it seems to get better...go anyway!!!!

Not only see a doctor, insist on an endoscope test.

My mum failed to do so when symptoms first started and now has incurable bowel cancer. :(

Dont mess about with that stuff...

Oh, I have had a recent endoscope. I had a tumor removed a few years ago, so I know how important that is. Luckily they didn't find anything!

While I was in pre-op they had that logging show on TV. They cut....down...tress. We get it. I used to be in logging many years ago, and we didn't have our own show, nor should we have had one.
