I carried two spare magazines for years, and then it occurred to me. If nine rounds of 230gr Speer Gold Dot .45ACP isn't enough to stop whatever is threatening me, I'm going to be too busy screaming like a girl and running in the other direction to be terribly accurate with the rest.

Wow, and here I've been going to the grocery store since before any of you were born, and I've never carried a gun. You guys must be so much braver than I am!

He had weapons and ammunition AT HOME?!? Surely not!!!
"Tactical position" meaning a seat with a good view of the movie?
Strange that he would bring knives when he had perfectly good GUNS at home. The sick bastard.
About what you'd find in my gun safe. :calli:
This may actually be plausible. It doesn't sound like he was there for an offensive. If so, why not bring MORE GUNS, MORE AMMO? A single handgun could cause a lot of injury, but knives?
Which sounds like all the guy is really guilty of.
At least people have their eyes open.

Sounds to me like the guy was a little paranoid and just wanted to see the movie. I see little evidence that there was a "massacre" planned here.

Later what year, doofus? Do they sell groceries in elevators where you live? :unuts:

I suppose you'll also argue that if only she'd had a gun, she could have shot it out in one of those teensy apartment elevators. :sroll:

I don't know, call me crazy, but I've just never felt the need to carry a gun to the grocery store. I've never even felt the desire to. Just not my thing, I guess.

I'm probably never going to need what I carry. But I feel naked without it though.

Should the unthinkable ever happen and I need what I carry, at least I'll have it and I won't have to rely on anyone else to secure my person, family, or property.

I don't criticize, judge or even care about what choices other people make in this matter. That is none of my affair.

This is neither brave nor cowardly. It simply is.

Be that as it may, since the chance of it happening is extremely low, does that not engage the word "excessive"?

Given that the chance of being able to deal with the rare situation successfully is increased by having the right tools on hand, does that not engage the word "prudent"?

If the chance of gun violence hppening is so extremely low, doesn't that make all the hand wringing over gun ownership/culture a bit excessive?

The amount of people that have CC permits has been going up the last 10 years, right?

Cause gun crime has been dropping in the last ten years....

The question that never seems to be debated is how practical, in any given situation, it is to use said weapon.

For instance, you've got a gun. You carry rounds to the store. You go home and put your gear in a draw. There's a home invasion and you can't do shit.

How good is the gun then? Or do gun owners carry then into the shower, et al.

Whats the point of having a gun for home defense if you don't have it beside your bed when sleep?

Or at least right beside you as much as possible.

I would think that is common sense. Come on Chup, you're slipping. :bergman:

What, so there's one under the couch cushion, one under the toilet paper, one under the cereal boxes, one under the kids playthings, one under the grease carpret in the garage, one under the TV, one under the BBQ, one under the fromny porch, one in the shower?

I could go on for another ten examples at least.

So basically, your argument is that there is never a situation to which your firearm is not to hand?

Just for my reference, how much physical space does 60 rounds take up on one's person?

Based on past conversations, the subject of carrying is a conundrum on this forum. The implication that "you don't carry 'cause you're scared to carry" has, however, to the best of my recollection only been leveled at the male of the species.

I'm not slipping at all. On the contrary, if the agument is to stand up, then you literally have to carry a gun everywhere.

The standard magazine for a Glock 17 holds 17 9mm rounds. Going from memory, the magazines are about 5" long, a little over an inch wide, and about three quarters of an inch thick. 1 magazine in the gun and two in pouches is 51 total rounds.

There's a 12 gauge pump in my closet, in special built rig to keep it from the kiddies.

There's a .38 snub in a hollowed out fake book box near the front door, on a high shelf.

There's a .22LR lever action over the back door.

One pickup has a Mini 30 in an overhead rack, and a 9mm semi auto in the console.

The other truck has a .45 ACP in the console.

My wife's guns are where ever she's decided to keep them.

What part of this isn't normal to you?
