By going to his house and eating his food. Duh.

The only real question is whether to do that while he's there or not.

Kinda an easy connection, since I assume many chefs will eat food that 8s similar to what they usually prepare.

And even if that isn't the case, it's still morally wrong to promote that garbage when you have an illness that is caused by such food one cooks.

Not everyone who smokes will kick off from lung cancer or emphysema. But most people that have lung cancer or emphysema are smokers. :bailey:

Where were you in the 1980's?

In the 1970's, I remember listening to Richard Pryor and loving his comedy. He used that word quite a bit. One of the funniest things I ever saw on TV was also in the 1970's on Sanford and Son when Fred was defending Lamont in court for a traffic ticket and he told the judge, "There's enough niggers in here to make a Tarzan movie." Incidentally, I caught that episode on TV Land a couple of years ago and that line of dialog was cut.

On what basis do you assume Paula Deen is black?

As if that makes any difference. If a word is "bad" it does't matter who says it. Personally, I'd love to put all these "holier than thou people" who have a problem with Paula Dean on the stand and ask them if they've never said anything offensive or racist in their entire lives. Then I can point out what utter hypocrites they are for making an issue over something that was said decades ago and in the privacy of someone's home. You people are pathetic.

No word is bad in and of itself. But there's this amazing thing known as context.

According to the prosecution's star witness, Trayvon Martin referred to George Zimmerman as a "crazy ass cracker". Mewa has called me and others here crackers on a number of occasions.

I don't think that term is either descriptive or neutral, so I figure it's probably a perjorative term, probably even a racial epithet.

Whole thing seems like an overreaction to me (if it's only based on something she said 30 years ago).

They were saying on the tube that had she come out right away and groveled properly, it might have blown over. But she was honest and fumbling and so no go.

I mean, hell, didn't that jackass Imus use a racial description (not the "n" word) a while back and they were all over him? And if memory serves, he returned in some form.

Before this, I had heard of her (my sister-in-law is a big fan of hers) but I don't watch cooking shows and her stuff is incredibly unhealthy anyhow - to someone whose family history includes diabetes and who is trying to avoid that fate.

Oh, and Muad Dib, cracker is most definitely a slur. Say that to someone in Florida who is from the non-urban part (like N. Florida) and who is a native, and you might get a sock in the jaw. When blacks use it, or use honky, they're not being complimentary.

[yt=The original conversation wasn't even racist in nature.]bmF8iIeOVEo[/yt]

It was superficial and stupid, but the focus was on looks, not on race.

Still think it's cover for the diabetes issue. They thought they could finesse it by claiming it was about race, and now they've ended up with a bigger mess.

Of course, the smart thing to do once the diabetes diagnosis came out would have been to do a complete makeover - of Deen and her cooking - to reflect a "healthier lifestyle" theme, but "smart" never entered the conversation...

Frankly, what anyone says in their home is none of anyone's business. She wasn't making some public display to harm anyone or be purposefully offensive.

I'd bet money this ex-employee tried to shake her down privately for a payoff, failed, and is now going for a lawsuit money grab.

Wasn't this ages ago? If it was so traumatic why didn't she instantly make hay about it? She waited until Paula was rich and vulnerable enough to pounce.

What does her skin color have to do with it? I thought the problem was the EEEEEEVILLLL word she uttered.

Wow, that's awful in a whole different way.

Need a popular way to fire an employee? Accuse them of using [-]an offensive term[/-] the n-word at some point in their past.

And I want to know what business is it of ANYONE what Paula's health is - what chronic conditions she has. As long as she is doing what her doctor says and taking care of it, why should anyone give a flying damn?

That she developed diabetes type II is something between her and her doctor, and the last I heard, anyone else finding out without her express permission is a violation of HIPPA.

Or is it only certain folks that can have their personal health kept hidden and others have to reveal it to the world?

Her contract was for Southern cooking a la her restaurant. That is what made her famous and a calling card. She still had followers, obviously. Why didn't TPTB just wait until her contract was up for renewal and state that they didn't have room on the lineup because of the new shows that were in the works.

Obviously, her skin color determines whether the word she used is EEEEEEEEEVILLLLLLLL or not.

I don't care about that cracker bitch! Can I say that?
    Yes, because I'm white.
So from now on, cracker will be "our" word. Blacks can't say it.
YES! We can have a trump card for being offended and acting out in a hostile manner.

That said, any black film makers can still use "the C word" up- to 200 times in any one movie would no problem.

No, I don't think you understand, Clyde. See, we're not allowed to make that word 'our' word. When a word has a negative moral value for one group but a neutral or positive moral value for another group, it might become obvious that the word itself has no moral value, and that what we're really assigning a negative moral value to is the group who aren't "approved" to use it.

And we can't have that becoming obvious.

Well I for one am HIGHLY offended over a certain restaurant being so callous and thoughtless when naming themselves CRACKER BARREL.

Oh, and the giant checkerboards they have available on their porches for waiting patrons? Stereotype much? Why not dominoes, or dice for a crap game?

I might possibly be appeased if they try to be humorous, inclusive and hip, and rename themselves CRACKA BARRELZ or something along those lines.

Whether that's gross or net worth, it's about to be a lot less. Especially now that her show is cancelled and sponsors have pulled out.

Never mind that her career is ruined and she's a social pariah. The privilege is still there somewhere, I'm sure.

That's but a tiresome load, the humor has long since worn off, and now it simply suggests white men aren't allowed an opinion because they rule the world.

    Yeah.
