Unknown number of casualties at this time - may be as many as ten. No word on fatalities yet. Traffic throughout the area is hopelessly snarled. Bolling Air Force Base (Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling) is in lockdown. The Navy Yard is surrounded by police. Helicopters everywhere.
A 70's station wagon with a nice hard bumper, and an unsuspecting crowd at a farmer's market, yeah, I could get that done.
Oh, no, I ain't falling for that trap again. You bet Muslims, I bet fat white guy in a militia, and it turns out to be one of those rare psychopathic black guys.
The situation is still very fluid. It's not even really confirmed that there's more than one shooter yet.
3 potential shooters. One dead, two still on the run. One white, one black. Both sounding like they were dressed in military clothes but unknown if they are actually servicemen.
If only someone at this military installation had a gun, this tragedy could have prevented. Oh, wait...
We should look into securing these military bases. Fences, cameras, bullet proof vests, badges, training drills, maybe some full time police on site, arm the employees. How many more have to die before we protect our federal employees?
And -? Aren't guns supposed to be the Answer to Everything? Seven fatalities reported now. See, apostle's right. If everybody had guns, there'd be no more violence evah.
You're trying to make a funny, and mock gun posession. There are a few things at play: 1. No doubt, the base security force having firearms did lessen casualties. 2. The base security force can't be everywhere. The NCO's and officers of 50 years ago would have had sidearms on them, and there would have been a much lower casualty count. 3. The average person on a military installation doesn't walk around with a gun everywhere. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not.
Sounds to me like there was only one shooter; reports that there were more seem likely a result of confusion. I'm guessing the ABC News report of it being a disgruntled former employee will turn out correct.
I hope so because from what the DC PD Chief is saying, its sounds like there is more than one shooter. In the end, why wait for facts, lets all speculate.
Point 2 is incorrect. Even fifty years ago, the only people walking around with sidearms on a typical military post would be MPs, SPs, or authorized security personnel. Somewhat different when you're talking something like an active infantry training deal, of course.
Assuming you are correct, then surely the solution is to arm every serviceman, civilian and visitor on the base. No?
