One Hundred Things Everyone Should Know about American and World History
In the Revolutionary War (1775-1783), the 13 American colonies led by General George Washington won their independence from the British Empire with the assistance from France and other nations. The last major battle was Yorktown, won by the Americans and French in 1781.
In the Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815) Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of France defeated every major European power except for the British Empire before ruining his army during an invasion of Russia in 1812. He was exiled to the island of Elba off the coast of France. Napoleon returned to France and tried to retake power during the so called “100 Days” but he was defeated at the Battle of Waterloo and exiled to the remote island of St. Helena where he died a few years later.
The Cold War was the struggle between the U.S. and its allies against the Soviet Union from 1947-1989 short of an all out war where the U.S. and its allies sought to prevent the spread of Soviet influence. The U.S. and its allies won when the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991.
At the Second Constitutional Convention (1788) delegates from most of the states led by George Washington met to fix the Articles of Confederation that had governed the United States since 1781. The Articles were not fixable so the Convention created the United States Constitution that included a more powerful federal government led by a strong chief executive.
The first two major political parties of the United States were the Federalist (President #2-John Adams, Secretary of Treasury-Alexander Hamilton) and the Republican (Presidents #3-Thomas Jefferson, #4 -James Madison, and #5- James Monroe). The Federalists failed to build a real national party structure and came apart due to the stresses of the War of 1812.
The Republican Party became the Democrat-Republican Party under Jefferson and then the Democratic Party under Andrew Jackson. Their symbol is the donkey.
The Whig Party was formed in opposition to President Andrew Jackson. Their only president was William Henry Harrison who died only one month after taking office. He served the shortest time of any American president.
Asia, Africa, North America, Australia, Europe, South America and Antarctica are the seven continents while the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Arctic, and Antarctic are the five oceans. The largest river in terms of volume is the Amazon in South America.
The U.S. federal government is divided into 3 equal branched (separation of powers) which each have powers that the other two branches do not have (checks and balances). The 3 branches are the executive (president), legislative (congress-house and senate) and judicial (Supreme Court).

"Great" "loving" & "devoted" does not mean "perfect" El Chup and I assume you are well aware of that.

And when people say regarding being a good husband and father that "you're are supposed to do that" might I remind you that a large number of men DO NOT do that.

We have men on this board who have been divorced multiple times IIRC by way of example.

I never pay attention to anything gul says to Dayton, but I'm sure it was spot on.

Just out of curiosity, does you not being divorced make you a better person/husband/father than someone who has been divorced??

Dayton has done lots of good things in his life:

- He has vacated numerous jobs in order so that someone else desperate for work could find employment.

- He has contributed to M&M's record number of sales over the years.

- He supports the military so much he keeps looking for new wars for them to fight.

- He helps motivate the polarized members of Wordforge to unite for a common cause - their derision of him. That's in addition to providing us with constant entertainment.

- And finally, one day in the future, he will provide sustenance to God's creatures as the worms and maggots feed on his rotting corpse.

The very fact that I am aware of that is why I cannot use any of those labels to describe you after your admission that you have committed spousal abuse. Quite simply that is behaviour you do not engage in if you love someone. Full stop.

Divorce is not a bad thing if it is for the right reasons. It's certainly in no way worse than hitting someone.

Weather is declining in influence upon history due to advancing technology.

1. Disease: foreign organisms attacking a

Ex. The Black Plague transformed Europe by exterminating one third of the people.


Ex. The U.S. was able to buy Louisiana because Napoleons army in the West Indies had been wiped out by Malaria.


Disease is declining in influence upon history due to medical technology.


World War One was the first major war where more people died from weapons than died from disease.

1. Money (money in this case refers to not only actual cash but to any human or natural resource).
   

Ex. The United States is powerful in part due to our huge supplies of natural and human resources.


Ex. The British Empire eventually collapsed in part because they went bankrupt from fighting two world wars within 30 years (1914-1945).


“Money” is growing rapidly in influence upon history.


Secondary Foundation Elements of History


Not as important as the first five but you still need to remember them.

1. Religion-the belief in something or someone beyond this world (life).
   

Ex. The Crusades motivated PARTLY by religion

Ex. The current war on Islamic terrorists.


Religion is declining in influence on World History. Christianity is one of the major religions in the world , and Christians no longer fight for Christianity.

1. Technology-refers to anything that people do to improve their lives using inventions or developments.
   

Ex. The United States is strong in part because we use high technology to grow our economy and maintain military supremacy.


Ex. The Soviet Union (U.S.S.R.) fell apart partially because they could not keep up with the western nations in technology.


Technology is growing in influence over world history.

1. Media- means that people use to communicate with a number of other people.
   

Ex. A fake newspaper story by 4 Denver reporters helped start the Boxer Rebellion in China that led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people


Ex. The United States declared war on Spain in 1898 in part due to inflammatory stories by two major New York newspapers.


Ex. The “Arab Spring” in 2011 to present was started in part due to online social media.


The Media is growing in influence upon World History.

What's the betting that the reason his wife is still with him is because it's been drummed into them by the bible bashers from birth that divorce is a shame and you have to make it work, despite his violence.

Wrong. Divorce may or may not be worse than other actions, depending on what led to the divorce, and what other things you did that didn't lead to divorce.

And in any case, as soon as you go down the "I'm a better person..." road, you have totally missed the point of grace, which is the central point of the Biblical teaching on salvation.

Dayton will be flabbergasted to know that I am better than he is because a) I am not divorced and b) I never slapped my wife.
