I never really liked Duck Dynasty even though the family are Church of Christ people and the father used to teach school not far from where we lived the longest.

Now after these statements and what I see as the inevitable firestorm of criticism he and his family will come in for I supposed I'll be supporting them more now.

I never liked the ZZTop beards. And I don't hunt. But my moral values are closely synched with theirs so.....

Why do you take personal offense at someone's moral beliefs?
As far as I know he did not attack you personally or anyone else by name. If it isn't personal on his part, why make it personal on yours?

Why the vulgarity and the descent into name calling?

IIRC, Rick, Ireland is a largely Catholic nation. The sentiments expressed are closely in line with the overall religious preferences of your countrymen.

Dayton, according to that article this guy thinks things are a sin but doesn't think it's proper to condemn people. Why do you go out of your way to condemn people rather than living and letting them live?

Because a man who thinks of people like me as the lowest common denominator may have no trouble treating me like such. It can be all the worse if he believes he has his god on his side when he does it, which he clearly believes such. So yes, he can go fuck himself.

It is my understanding that if you do not condemn sinful acts and make certain people know you believe it to be a sin, then you are responsible for their sins as well.

Thus for the Christian, failure to openly condemn sin makes them guilty too.

Secondly, it has always understanding that a Christian is to get people to follow God and repent of their sins and obtain forgiveness.

No one can be expected to repent of their sins if they do not know it is a sin in the first place.

    So?

Many people at this site think very poorly of me SPECIFICALLY (unlike you who I assume Phil doesn't even know) yet I don't get all snippy and vulgar in addressing them for the most part.

They think poorly of you because of your words and stated actions. You have given them ample reason to find you ideologically repulsive. Ol' Phil thinks poorly of people who are gay because of a biological trait. It would be like claiming all people with brown hair are wicked, vile people in the eyes of God. He's summarily judged them based on an interpretation of a text he believes is the word of his god. He says they don't judge, but he has done exactly that.

I consider who (or what) someone has sexual relations with to be a choice. To argue otherwise is to argue that people are simple slaves to their biological urges.

I read "not to judge" as "do not judge someone's soul" that "don't say you know they are going to hell (or heaven) as only God knows that".

I do not infer it to mean that a Christian is not to judge someones actions as being a sin according to the will of God set forth in the Bible. Because there are plenty of examples of men of God (and Jesus himself) doing just that in the New Testament.

People are very quick to use Jesus saying in reference to the adulterous woman

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone".

They forget his final words directed at her

    "Go and sin no more"

Thus, Jesus was in fact judging her actions as sinful given he was telling her to stop doing it.

Insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results. Ignoring trolls has never, in the history of the internet, actually worked to make them go away. And, of course, labeling Dayton a troll is not warranted; he's definitely sincere to some extent, and it's really impossible to tell exactly what that extent is. People just like his persona are very real and exist everywhere. You don't get to dismiss him as a troll just because he's a flaming retard who mostly agrees with you.

Between this and the christians in Sudan thread, dayton's made it abundantly clear he's only here to troll.

The middle aged father of one, high school teacher and holier than thou religious man gets his jollies by saying vile things on the Internet and and the reactions he gets to the vile things he says.

    That is so pathetic.

You should probably grow up and act your age, son.

Biologically speaking, you would be wrong.

Says the married man, which means you didn't resist your biological urges. Why not?

Jesus was telling everyone else to get their own houses in order before deciding to judge her decisions in life. As for her directive, Jesus gave her an impossible task. If all people are sinners by default, and In 1st Timothy, Paul says that we all are, and that he is Chief among them, and if a man who is that devoted to Jesus Christ considers himself the Chief of sinners, then there's no way for this woman to ever succeed at applying the statement given to her by Jesus.

What about Jesus dying for our sins, and we being forgiven? If we have already been forgiven, the point of our lives must be to make the lives of other people better, in thankfulness to God. So why not worry about things that actually matter (feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, etc.) rather than pointing out sin everywhere you see it?

What if you help them commit that sin? Personally I think you're wrong on that, if that was true then everyone everywhere that believes in the whole Christianity thing will be going to hell. People commit sins that are against the Bible/Church/Jebus all the time. If someone tried to stop all that then they couldn't do much anything else.

I call bullshit on that, because then it becomes Pride (1 of the 7) because invariably the Christian will start to boast on how they are going to heaven. Doing such a thing places that Christian into the excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise.,also known as Vanity.

For fucks sake, that pretty says that Christians do not have any respect for what other people have faith in. And if someone was to try to convert a Christian into their faith, the Christian would most likely begin to condemn the other person for trying to sway their beliefs into that of others. How about Christians just leave people of other faith alone, and respect their beliefs as much as they want theirs to be respected.

Because that is not an option for Christians. Merely "leave everyone alone" is not one of the things a Christian is permitted to do. Religions (most) are zero sum games. They can't be all right and one can't advance without other belief systems retreating before it.

Christians and Christianity being respected by non Christians will never be enough.

"I'm okay, you're okay" is not anywhere within the teachings of Jesus.

By the way Ed, I appreciate your time and effort to post a reasonable reply without resorting to personal insults.

If this is true, it pretty strongly invalidates the notion that the United States is a Christian nation. I applaud you for your enlightenment.

I haven't maintained that the U.S. was a "Christian nation" IIRC. The United States was founded by people which were largely Christians and Christians are far and away the majority today in the U .S.

I have promoted the notion that if atheists and others kept bitchin and moaning and trying to overturn centuries of tradition then perhaps it was time for a constitutional amendment modifying the first amendment to specify that Christianity is in fact the religion of the U.S. but that is all.
