Most of 'em were too busy having premarital sex, and getting divorces, and being the driving force behind the Sexual Revolution.

Of course it is sinful, but there is nothing saying that it is any more sinful than the sins everyone else does. The only one who should be able to point that out and condemn it as a sin, is someone who is sin free, and I don't know anyone like that. We are all sinners and should not cast stones.

That's exactly what bothered me the most about his statement. If he believes they are sinners, shouldn't his first step be an effort to understand the entirety of the sin? That he just thinks "gross, butt sex," when considering homosexuality means that he completely misses that it is first and foremost about love. Describing a person in such an inaccurate way and then condemning them for his own mistake is hateful.

That's not what I'm getting. They said that they understood A&E's decision. So they hope that A&E understands theirs

So A&E has been accused of "silencing Christians."

Fans of irony will note that in this case "silencing" apparently includes providing an international TV audience.

But connoisseurs of irony will note that members of the group responsible for more censorship than any other in the history of this country, now think censorship is bad. :)

A&E will be fine. You think for a second they havent calculated out every scenario?I actually wouldnt be surprised if they come out better off as a result of this, those "2.2million"(where ever the fuck you got that number from, I dunno) people have just been replaced by tens of millions of people who had never even heard of Duck Dynasty before this week. You don't know anything about business, even the simple concepts, but I guess that's why you get paid in vaping gear.

He's right. If divorcees were treated the way LGBT folks are treated by the church, the fundamentalists wouldn't have a pot to piss in.

I gotta say though, showing us these dudes didn't have beards 20 years ago ain't very convincing. If you want to make the case that it's all fake, how about a photo from, say, 2008?

And no, I'm not saying there's no staging and marketing - it IS a TV show....just a specific point about the "photographic evidence!"

The only thing I really found uncomfortable about the show was the praying on national television. I have this thing where I don't like seeing personal prayer open and public. It goes back to the Biblical passage in Matthew 6:5, where it says, "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full."

It bothers me for two reasons: First, the aforementioned verse. When I was a devout fundamentalist Christian, I didn't like praying in public. What I had to say to God was our business, not anyone else's. I consider prayer to be a very personal, intimate thing, and showing it off to everyone just makes me think of it as obscene. Second, it doesn't seem genuine to me when people pray in public where all can see, because one is fully aware one has an audience, and I can't help but think some folks are trying to be "holier-than-thou." Of course, many fundamentalist Christians eat it up. "Look how Godly they are!" It's the hallmark of charlatans to give the appearance of holiness and righteousness in public.

Simply the fact that anyone can state their take on the world loudly. It doesn't make them a hero or worth supporting.

He only stated his take when he was asked what it was.

I remember the Chik-fil-a kerfluffel. Everybody was like, "Their opinions are their own and they're welcome to them, but they GIVE MONEY TO ORGANIZATIONS THAT TRY TO DEPRIVE MINORITY RIGHTS AND THAT'S WHAT MAKES THEM HATEFULL!!!111oneone!

But now it's, "someone asked Phil his opinion on something and he gave one I don't like AND THAT MAKES HIM HATEFUL!!!!111ONEONE!

In all the seasons of Duck Dynasty how often did they prosthelytize about homosexuality?

This whole ordeal stinks of, "well, knowing what I've seen, this guy almost certainly thinks homosexuality is a sin, but that's okay because he never actually confirmed it, because confirming it, WHEN ASKED TO is hateful.

Yeah, he never preached against sin, he never lobbied agains sin, he never even offered an un-asked-for opinion on sin, but when he was straight up asked for his opinion about sin, he answered truthfully, even though he was certain to get bitch slapped over it.

But the question was not "is being gay a sin?" it was "what do you think is sin?" so his "take" is that when listing sins, the first item on the list must be homosexuality. not, ya know, murder and such lesser shit.
I see your Chick-fil-a and Raise you a Natalie Maines (for just one example among MANY)
To be fair, while I think the protest is wildly over-inflated - he didn't just say "I don't believe in it" and leave it at that. He pretty directly said that homosexuality LEADS TO beastiaality and all the rest.

I figure that was just inarticulate phrasing but once the thing comes out of your mouth you either fess up and say "that didn't come out like i meant for it to" or you own it, and the consequences of it.
Again - out of all the millions of ways a human can sin, all the hundreds of ways they can sin according to the bible, this was the ONE thing that most needed to be mentioned?

(oh, and yes he's preached against sin - he's a minister fer-cryin'outloud and he and his sons are regularly featured speakers at church events all over the countryside)

to be clear, I'm NOT busted up about it - I'm in the camp of "what did you expect he was thinking?" - but on the other hand, waving it off as somehow unfair that he got blowback isn't gonna work either. He said something stupid, a lot of folks said "that shit's stupid"

If it's fair to do so with with lefties, it's fair to do so with righties - even if they try to use the bible to cover their ass.

I've never been that crazy about public prayers either. Not even an out loud "blessing" for a meal. Church is about the only place I don't have a problem with it at all.

But I know the meal blessing, pregame prayer, prayer before public meetings is so much a part of traditions in some areas that people who haven't been in church for decades insist on it.

When you look at the news today, what's the biggest headling "sin" related stuff going on right now?

    Gay marriage, right?

    Right.

That's the in thing right now. It was the first thing that came out of his mouth. Coincidence? Maybe...maybe not.

...and I'm not saying that the official blowback against him is unexpected. A&E has to do what it has to do. They aren't censoring him. His civil rights aren't being violated. I'm just pushing back against this, "He's a hate monger" bullshit. I don't think he is.

You're lying. Nobody gives a shit about murder unless it's the mass type in a public place. It's all about which state's just voted in gay marriage and you know it.
