I wish the Baptist Faith and Message ended here. Sadly, they have to invalidate what I think is a great piece by adding one more item, their stance on gay marriage. But, excluding that I think they get this part right.

    Bolding mine.

And based on the responses to their action on Facebook alone, their advertisers just lost the business of 2.2 million people angry about A&E's move in this case.

Which is why I said what A&E has done is astonishingly stupid.

Do ya think you might, maybe, just for fun, read what I actually post instead of relying on whatever your delusions about me cook up?

Alternatively, you could use some common fucking sense. If A&E hadn't taken Robertson off the air, what percentage of the shrill activist LGBT contingent of the show's fanbase would A&E have lost?

It's not JUST about the sexual conduct. It's the fact that Mr. Robertson, when describing homosexuality, MADE it all about sexual conduct. He did not treat homosexuality like a function of the brain, he treated it like a sexual perversion. Saying that it's only a starting point for further "sinning". By saying what he said, he insinuated that homosexuals are not this way because they're simply attracted to the same sex. He seemed to not even be aware at all that homosexuals love each other just as deeply and passionately as straight people. According to him they simply want anal sex. That very idea is hate speech at it's very core due to just plain ignorance.

That being said, if all someone has to do is say what they believe to gain the support of the general American audience, then we might as well be telling Westboro Baptist that they're doing a good thing.

you actually think that the typical consumer is savvy enough to check the brand label before they buy? Not remotely. If for no other reason that the Duck Commander merchandise is limited, while the Duck Dynasty brand goes from underwear to bobbleheads to nail polish (i'm NOT exaggerating)

As far as I'm concerned, and I suspect a great many people, homosexuality is a sexual perversion. I suspect lots of Americans consider it a perversion but are reluctant to voice that opinion due to current prevailing political correctness and figure "as long as they are not hurting anyone else" then it doesn't matter.
That said, just because homosexuality is a perversion doesn't make it any more a sin than other sexual sins which include premarital and extramarital sex.

Once again saying something is a "sin" doesn't make it hate speech.

I think you could only classify something as hate speech if it clearly promoted violence, governmental oppression or something of that nature.

Example. A billboard saying "Homosexual acts are sins". Not hate speech.

Example. A billboard saying "God hates fags" or "Lock up the queers". Hate speech

Are you kidding? This act is genius, it will make him a ton of money, and revive the ratings for his show which was declining. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this was all just a publicity stunt.

    This.

    This is where I stopped.

If that's actually your view then there's no point in my discussing it any further because it's people with ignorant views like that which are part of the problem.

If you intentionally take a view that is contrary to reality, for the purpose of being able to condemn people and tell them they're going to hell, then it is difficult to think of anything else more hateful. Cunt.

They lost a non-zero but rapidly shrinking audience of people who share the guy's prejudice, and appealed to a rapidly growing audience. Sounds like they backed the right horse.

That was 20+ years ago. A&E has become like "The History Channel" which does nothing but talk about aliens. They've both gone down hill in their search for ratings.

lol. You realize your assumption that I am ignorant to other views simply because I reject them is only proving my point further, right? It doesn't matter what I say. You're going to create your own belief from it anyways.

Says the man who hasn't even seen the contract. You have no idea what's in it, yet you feel qualified to declare that A&E are in breach of contract? Do you really think that the execs at A&E are stupid enough to suspend the guy without running it past their legal department first?

    No. Just no.

Did Robertson have any reasonable expectation that he could represent the show and say whatever he liked without consequence?

No. It would be like a pro football team cutting a linebacker for telling GQ in an interview that "God hates fags!".

you have difficulty with the concept of grace and forgiveness? Do you believe salvation can be lost once obtained?

You're not missing anything. Only a small percentage of the show has anything to do with ducks or hunting - so I don't even get why the show exists at all.

Oh that's just bullshit He didn't protest any funerals, he didn't lobby for anti-gay legislation, he didn't even get in anyone's face. He was asked his opinion, and he gave it. He doesn't need the show...he didn't even want to do the show. I really and truely do not get all the hyperventilation over this.

Yes. I believe that salvation can be lost once obtained. Something that puts me at odds with my wife and her family by the way.

In regards to grace and forgiveness. You only obtain forgiveness if you ask for it.

Board is still way to slow.

I do believe that Protestants in the United States made a major mistake by not standing up during the so called sexual revolution of the 1960s and 70s and say in regard to premarital sex and the soaring divorce rates that THIS IS WRONG!

Now they are trying to fight acceptance of homosexuality without a moral leg to stand on so to speak.

You say that like premarital sex and divorce didn't exist before then. Peole were fucking before marroage...but it was kept under wraps or a couple got married and give birth to an eight pound "preemie" six or seven months later. As for divorces...well, kind of difficult for a woman to leave when she had no career choices besides secretary or teacher. :borg:
