All you know of her, Shep and Shep's home life is Shep one-sided version of things. "Emotionally unstable?" Who the hell are you to make such an assertion? If your husband came home one day and announced he's a woman trapped in a man's body and no longer sexually attracted to you, you might be a little "emotionally unstable" yourself. "Unhealthfully obsessed with Shepherd?" WTF? She's his wife for Christ's sake! "Multiple mental illnesses?" Well thank you very much Dr. Tamar, where exactly did you earn your degree in clinical psychology? Have you seen her medical charts? Her treatment plans? Exactly what has she been diagnosed with Dr. Tamar? I'd like the full DSM IV-TR Axis I thru V diagnosis please. And then there's these suggestions by both you and that idiot twat Anc that the woman is untrustworthy and would misuse any money that made it's way into her hands. Just who the fuck do you dipshits think you are? What the fuck makes you think you're in any position to make these kinds of allegations against someone you've never fucking met? Good news, everyone! I did a bit of a "Hail Mary!" post on another board, to see if somebody on that board might have some advice. Dig it, not only was a poster able to come up with somebody who does charity work where Nova lives (its an atheist charity that raises money to buy AC units for people who can't afford them), but it turns out that the charity worker is friends with Nova on Facebook! Small fucking world, huh? Anyway, I let her know where we are (slightly better than nowhere, but willing to help), explained Nova's domestic problems, and asked if she could find out if there were any immediate needs that we might be able to help the family with. So, it looks like we've got somebody else in the area who can help, and one who is familiar with being a pariah in Nova's area, but is successful at raising money.
For a practicing shrink, you'd think you'd know that DSM-5 superseded DSM-IV-TR over a year ago. And you forget that through Facebook many of us have actually SEEN what her wife's posted. She IS mentally unstable and less than trustworthy. In other words, as is normal, you have no idea what you are talking about.
As someone trying to pretend that they know what they're talking about, it's perfectly predictable that you wouldn't be aware that DSM V wasn't even published until May 2013 and it certainly hasn't "superseded" DSM IV-TR at this point. If anything, ICD-10 will become the new gold standard. So thank you for verifying your ignorance, as if it wasn't apparent enough at this point. So you've read some Facebook posts and thereby decided the woman is unstable? Really? Bullshit. And if you really are that certain the woman is nuts, all the more reason to put the brakes on the donation idea until you can be certain whatever money is raised can go straight to Shep's pocket. You mean like the 41% attempted suicide rate for individuals who're transgendered? I will grant you that Nova's side of the story isn't 100% accurate, I will grant you that if we knew all sides we might think less of Nova. But I have fucking been there on the suicide thing thing, man. I have fucking been there, and if I can keep someone I know from being in a position where they know that their own mind is trying to kill them, and that they seemed to have developed a conditioned reflex that makes them want to gnaw their own wrists until the bleeding is unstoppable, then I'm going to take it. Because people who're serious about killing themselves don't announce it, they just fucking do it, and those who've tried (and somehow managed to survive) have all said the same thing, "If somebody had just said something to me that acknowledged me as a person at that moment, I wouldn't have done it." This is not the time to be worried about if Nova was completely honest with us regarding her home life. This is the time to worry about a human being deciding to "punch out." And unlike a number of people I could name, Nova's at least proved herself capable of thought and changing her position on issues, so that alone makes her life more valuable than some people here.

Seems to me the only information we need is that one of our members just had a brush with death, will probably require months/years of rehab, may never be 100% functional again, and was in dire financial straits before this happened, with the possibility of huge medical bills and an inability to work from hereon. The rest is just chaff.
Hold on now.....what are you talking about here? I thought Shep was in the hospital after suffering a workplace accident and breaking his neck. You're talking about suicide here, and making allusions to Shep not being totally honest about his home life. WTF? You people are a total clusterfuck.
What's to argue? That Nova might be running a scam on us all? Yeah, I'll admit that its possible. Indeed, one of the reasons why I've been looking for someone on the ground near Nova is to make sure we're not being scammed. I've also been very clear with the people I've contacted that my interactions with Nova have been fairly minimal and limited to this board. Frankly, I don't give a shit what the issues with the family might be. The family freaked out when Nova announced that he was a she? Good golly, who wouldn't? That is not the issue right now. Unless you can prove that Nova's lying about breaking her neck or have evidence that she beat her wife, then I don't care. She is at a very high risk of suicide, and if I can do something to lower that risk, I'm going to take it. A human life is more important that worrying about if you've been lied to that Nova's wife got into an argument with her over an issue like who left the toilet seat up, or if it was really over Nova blowing her paycheck on WoW.

And waiting would be better because, why? Look, let's say that workman's comp picks up 100% of the tab of Nova's medical bills, and the disability insurance which she may (or may not) have covers the family's expenses while Nova recovers, so any money that Nova gets from us is going to be a bonus, and there's no danger that Nova is going to off herself. How much do you think that she makes? I've worked for Wallyworld, and I know what the pay rates are. As I've said before, Nova's take home pay is probably no better than about $300/wk., and most likely less than that. She's supporting 3 other people on that, and yes, she does get a discount on some items she buys at Wallyworld (10% is the max, and none of it applies to things like food, except during the period of time from Thanksgiving to Christmas), but that's hardly what I'd call "living." So maybe she takes the money we donate to her and uses it to buy a bunch of booze, which she slurps back and then barfs up all over her wife, I can't control that. But hey, if I can make somebody's life a little bit brighter, without harming my own, then I'm all fucking for it. If you've got a reason for being Mr. Buzzkill, then spill it, but I'm going off what its like to be a Wallyworld employee, of which I have first hand experience. Do you?
