Was he diagnosed mentally ill? Only diagnosis I heard was Aspergers, and I don't think is considered a mental illness. Did anyone have any documented proof that he was mentally ill? If the answer is no, then there was no way in hell anyone could have taken his guns away legally.
You're very good at pointing out what can't be done. Refresh my memory...have you ever made a positive suggestion? How would you solve the problem of guns in the wrong hands? I mean generally, not hyperfocus on this one case so you can do your gun-grabbers riff and then float away.
Have YOU ever made a positive suggestion? And no, taking guns away does not count. How do you suggest we find folks BEFORE they commit a crime without stomping all over their rights? I think you see the dilemma that law enforcement has. They can't act UNTIL there is a crime. As youwould putit, rather ten guilty be set free rather than one innocent be harmed
"For the last 8 years of my life, ever since I’ve hit puberty, I’ve been forced to endure an existence of loneliness, rejection, and unfulfilled desires. All because girls have never been attracted to me. " Join the fucking club! His situation describes a whole bunch of guys - this kid didn't need mental health assistance, he needs a bitch slap from The Godfather who shouts "you can act like a MAN!" BTW from what I saw on the news (briefly last night) he had a lot of magazines but none were large capacity, at least larger than can be bought in most states including his own. All were legal weapons. Of course, this means the anti-gun crowd will say "even when existing laws are followed, they fail us! We need even TOUGHER laws to end the tragedy!" The shit-stain was a coward who chose soft targets - big fucking surprise.
While this guy was clearly mentally ill, it doesn't make the other men sympathizing with him and subtly defending him online any less disturbing or potentially dangerous. Until this weekend, I was of the opinion that "rape culture" was an exaggeration... then I looked up some examples. That shit's pervasive.
Response to 14th Doc I'm not buying that. Are we now going to blame every sociopath on society? Society is fundie, therefore terrorism?
You don't think it's possible that his mental illness made him more susceptible to these extreme misogynistic ideologies? Are those sympathizers mass-murdering women, or are they just posting shit on the Internet? And if not mental illness, what do you suppose is the decisive factor between those two grades of action? I don't think rape culture is a fiction, necessarily, nebulous as it is, and unreasonable as its authors tend to be. But if you want to make a case about a pervasive mentality that affects men in general, don't use as your flagship example a mentally ill sociopath who is very unlike men in general.
I was Aspergers when Aspergers wasn't cool. Definitions and diagnosises always change. But there is safe Aspergers (David Byrne from the Talking Heads might have a mild case of the safe version) and I might be pretty messed up mentally but am safe as milk. Anyway we can blame the parents, blame mental health procedures, blame guns, but in the end there is one person to blame - the one who pulled the trigger. That's the bottom line. I don't think limiting our Constitutional rights (in any arena) is worth the fruitless attempt to prevent an unpreventable tragedy. California has a shitload of people. Odds are a few will be fucked up. BTW I'm guessing a lot more people got killed by drunk drivers over this Memorial Day weekend than got shot by crazy people - haven't heard shit about them yet.
I don't know, since that's not what I advocated. There's no single cause for anything in society. Regardless, there's still a toxic, anti-female ideology being pushed in Western society by some people. It's not quite as vile as the ones being pushed by various organized religions, and there's no formal handbook I'm aware of, but that doesn't mean it's not there, and that doesn't mean it shouldn't be recognized and challenged whenever possible.
Guess what? I never said it was. You still offer no suggestions for keeping guns out of the hands of people who shouldn't have them. You're so busy working yourself into a frenzy about gun-grabbers you've never even bothered to think about it. Go play Gotcha with someone else.
In other words, you don't have the first clue, and will continue to deal in layperson generalities to hide your ignorance.
There are some misogynists out there. But our culture is not captive to them or dominated by their philosophy.
There's no middle ground there? The judges that concern themselves with how rape victims were dressed? The "nice guys" that think simply existing entitles them to fuck any women they want? The legislators that allow condoms in every store and subsidize Viagra, but fight against easier access to birth control pills?
First, lets look at this with at bit of perspective. I think the Germans set the standard for what is and what is not mass murder. This freak killed some innocent people. He was rich, so that means that he was above the law in our society. Nothing good can come from this. They anti gun nuts are going to use this for political gain. The cops have a million excuses but will use this to take away more rights of the working class people. The media is the problem here. Its like the movie "natural Born killers". The media is glorifying this dude by running his videos. What does this do but promote copycats?
Neither do you. And you certainly haven't offered any specific or credible ideas about how to utilize the mental health profession to stop these tragedies. In this situation, the police were called, they came out and interviewed the killer, the killer himself admits in his manifesto that if the cops had searched his room the jig would have been up.
Yup. I've heard fuck all about the victims, and far too much about the killer and his special brand of bullshit.
In this thread, no. Because I'm tired of repeating myself to hysterics who respond to anything I post with "Yer takin' ur gunz!!!!!" You've got nothing. But you keep posting anyway.
The mental health profession is a joke and a scam. I don't think they have cured or fixed a single soul. There is no accountability. its snake oil.
