He appears to be a new user. You should probably offer him a warm welcome. Welcome @Jefferey Walker, please feel free to kick your shoes off and stay a while.
At which point people would start screaming "Why aren't you looking for answers? What are you covering up?"
Well, if no one had had any guns, this would have still happened and it would have ended in a sword fight.
Pretty much. Damned if you do, and damned if you don't. I actually agree with Dayton. After Columbine, there were a ton of copycat wannabes shootings/bomb threats for the next year afterwards because a lot of these folks just wanted attention. With social media being what it is, the names wouldn't be too hard to find, but there should be a law similar to that for sexual assault victims where the names aren't disclosed on TV.
That's not a law; it's just a policy that's been adopted by the vast majority of outlets. A law prohibiting publication would be struck down in no time.
A fair distinction I didn't think about, which would make it all the better were some news outlet were to adopt this and the others followed suit.
Hell, they even do this when someone runs onto the field during a ball game. The camera crew won't show it to discourage more people from seeking attention.
