You get the occasional weirdo. When I was in junior high, some "satanist" kid held a couple girls hostage with his dads shotgun, then let them go once the police showed up. But there's still nothing near the level of killing sprees like you see in America, despite high levels of private gun ownership. America is broken in some special kind of way that no other country seems to have replicated.
Perhaps it's because Japan has a more stable family structure and social environment for their children?
Doc, I think America in general has a binge mentality towards...well, everything. People gorge on booze and fuck everything on two legs the moment they leave home. Adults treat booze and fucking as Bad Things, so they go into the real world and lash out without learning about moderation. We could raise the legal drinking age to 30 and see the same shit. With these killers, it's the same deal, I'll bet. A common pattern is these kids come from fairly well off families who have the financial means to take care of them but are outta touch and will continue to placate their kids' behsviors. Maybe many of them could be taught some in between of being a doormat and slaying innocents. The majority of us here weren't exactly prom royalty materials ourselves, but except for Ted I don't think any of us ever cosidered murder as a solution.
Yeah, their heavy industry, and weapon procurement, and banker daddies need to teach them to make their victims die long and slow, and with a thick shield of plausible deniability, with economic warfare on the lower classes.
Maybe it was in the related thread. I said have all the media to cooperate to not reveal the names of these murders, the names of their families, not publish their manifestos or whatever they issue. Make them complete nonentities once they commit their crimes.
Discipline and respect for authority? Kind of like how, back in the day, guns were much more readily available yet less violent crime occurred? We used to be a more disciplined culture, too, after all.
I despise all authority, and suspect them all of corruption and/or hypocrisy, and I haven't killed anybody.
Because they have a submissive, obedient, respectful society - a different culture completely. Flood them with guns and they would still have a low violent crime rate. Flood them with American violent criminals without access to guns and the violent crime rate would skyrocket. We have both violent criminals/psychos and guns here, so statistically we look pretty bad I suppose. All you can do is try to keep yourself/family as safe as possible within legal limitations.
But do we? If I'm not mistaken there have been more than just a few mass murders or attack that have taken place in other places around the world such as China. In those cases other weapons have been used. Why is the violent crime rate so low in Japan? Well look at their culture of conformity and close supervision combined with a judicial system that is far less protective of the people rights than in other nations like the US. In the meantime here is an article from The New York Post discussing the idea that maybe it isn't the access to guns and lack of mental health care that leads to these incidents. (LINK)
Who exactly is denying this? There is a denial that society at large creates misogyny or that Rodger's misogyny is the only thing that caused him to be a mass murderer. But I've seen no statements along the lines of, "Elliot Rodger is not a misogynist."
There was more to the kid than mysogyny. He hated women. He hated men. He hated happiness. He hated nerds. He hated himself. He hated sunshine. He hated mental health treatment. But let's focus on the mysogyny. Because that's why he killed his three male roommates after all.
Holy shit, I agree with Faceman! Seriously, everyone's pet issue can go take a flying fuck over times like this.
That is a very good idea, in fact. Even you have been talking your usual manure the rest of the time.
I'd like to see it, but I don't think it will happen. People want to see the car crash up close, and will go wherever they can to find out who the killer is--which means that at least one "news" organization will leak a name, and we're back to where we started. "First on the scene" has taken the place of journalistic and moral integrity.
This. American journalism has really went downhill the past twenty years. There are some blogs out there that while maybe partisan do a better job investigating and searching for truth than so-called "real journalists"
I said searching for truth. Compare the Huffington Post or SaintPetersblog to what you get in a local paper. Those two blogs always take a different angle that seems to cut to the heart of the story. They also go out of their way to dig deeper beyond short sound bites as well as push for accuracy. Maybe your local media is better than mine, but it's gotten to the point where I stopped subscribing and I'm not the only one that's done that.
So you find your local paper to be as bad as CNN, Fox, or [insert any video news service]? That's definitely not my perception of the papers I read either regularly or occasionally. Maybe I've just been lucky.
Most blogs just link to stories from mainstream sources, then add a strong dose of opinion. They're not doing their own independent research. They don't have people on the scene. They seem better to you because they reinforce what you already believe.
