Mace Windu and Yoda do have a brief conversation about the Sith, but I only recall mention of the rule of two.

Sounds like a bad Transformers movie subtitle. Which is to say, it sounds like a Transformers movie subtitle.

In TPM, the Ki-Adi-Mundi character (yes, I had to look it up) says that "the Sith have been extinct for a millenium."

So, a throwaway line in a movie best forgotten, there's no reason why it can't be completely chucked aside. Its not like you'd be changing the parentage of Luke and Leia, or claiming Wedge blew up the Death Star.

Btw, 'An Ancient Fear' sounds a helluva 'not a whole movie by itself'. Sounds like an open ending that makes you watch the next installments by force (*chkchkchk*) since whatever's the Fear will only be revealed in the movie's last seconds.

Made sense when it came to LOTR. Makes financial sense for Disney. Makes moviegoers angry. Friends of mine complained about it with every LOTR movie despite knowing that there are three books and three movies were planned well in advance.

Yes, I know the original trilogy was a trilogy too. But it was never planned as such and you can watch SW as a stand alone movie without ever seeing the others. Well, they stopped that from ESB onwards so I guess it's written in stone anyway. Why not reflect it in the title.

You know what this means? Now the gang at Starship Modeler will be angsting over whether they should build their Falcon model accurate to the episode IV version, the episode V version, the episode VI version, the 5 foot model, the matt painting, the full size prop from IV, V or VI, or now the VII CGI or full-sized version...

"A New Hope" was the first in a lllllooooooonnnnngggggg list of horrible decisions by Lucas on the Star Wars franchise. It was all downhill from there.

From what I've observed every entertainment franchise goes down hill over time. Especially science fiction. The lone exception I can think of being Babylon 5. And like it or hate it, it was not that different in its later years than in its early ones.

In many ways, you could say that the Star Wars franchise started running out of steam with "Return of the Jedi" with it being obvious that George Lucas was running out of ideas and was having to retread the whole "blow up a death star" thing. The expanded universe pretty much owes its existence to Timothy Zahn who did a great job of reinvigorating the franchise with the "Heir to the Empire" trilogy but even the EU seems to have pretty much run out of gas in my opinion.

Both my wife and I have been to Abu Dhabi (UAE). Believe me, the city has everything you need within reach, and the surrounding desert looks like Tatooine.

Not from Lucas' perspective. TPM made a cool billion in the theaters alone, AOTC made 650 million and ROTS made 850 million. Add easily double those numbers for DVD releases, merchandise and licensing. Even though the prequel trilogy is considered subpar among fans, casual viewers don't see it like that at all. In fact, a few rough edges aside I do like AOTC and ROTS but I'm not really a Star Wars superfan. Those are nice harmless fairy tales but hardly the stuff to rave over for decades

To my great shame I also prefer the souped-up versions of the original trilogy (not the one with the stupid celebrations at the end but the one with more CGI creatures and stuff) because they seem so much more alive. Greedo shooting first? Don't care. Luke screaming while he falls? He's a farmboy and not Superman!

Actually the "Greedo shooting first" is a major change to the underlying character of Han Solo.

It takes a character who was originally shown as being very morally ambiguous and turns him basically a hero from the beginning.

When I originally saw it, I had no idea who Han Solo was or what role he would play in the movie. So his shooting of Greedo made his later heroism and self sacrifice stand out even more.

Just like his initial bickering with Princess Leia made his trying to save her in the trash compactor just moments later even more significant.

^ Yea, I get that of course. Still, don't care. It's a fairy tale with clear archetypes and Han's transformation, well, he's gruff enough in the beginning

If they had to have the scream, it should have been Hamill's voice.
Plenty of Luke screams in the other films to sample from.

I despised every single change Lucas made to the OT in the Special Editions. None of the changes were needed, and only served to cheapen the films. Remember, the original Star Wars film was considered a B-movie by Fox, was only good due to Marcia Lucas's editing and Gary Kurtz's producing. At that time Lucas had no clout, and he needed a strong producer to shoot down his moronic ideas. By the time Return of the Jedi came around (the worst of the OT) Lucas's power and ego were out of control, which is why Gary Kurtz and Irvin Kirschner walked off the series. Kirschner is well known for turning down ROTJ because the script sucked, and Lucas had already surrounded himself with Yes Men who bowed down and took it up the ass over every stupid decision Lucas made from that point forward. He even hired a newbie director in Richard Marquand who was totally out of his expertise, but with whom Lucas would have no trouble controlling every aspect of the production, not to mention directing most of it himself.

Star Wars was Lucas's lightning in a barrel. A so-so fantasy adventure film that just happened to get a talented crew and production staff to help make a good movie in spite of the writer and director.

The Empire Strikes Back is the best Star Wars movie because it's the one Lucas had the least involvement with. Instead, far superior film makers turned it into one of the best movies ever make.

By the time ROTJ came around, Lucas was back in control and fucking everything up completely, shitting on the masterpieces that came before it. I hate ROTJ as much as I hate all three of the PT films. It's clunky, clumsy, and awful -- a complete piece of shit saved only by state-of-the-art special effects (for that time).

Completely agree. ROTJ was the first movie I ever considered walking out of. I probably would have had I not been on a date. My date loved it, especially the Ewoks :garamet: .
