Also, the on-set photos of the Millennium Falcon in the film, from last week, confirm that the Millennium Falcon is in the film.

Hmmm... Looks like JJ is setting Star Wars in an alternate also. In Star Trek he rebooted them in an alternate universe. And now both Han and Luke have evil Spock beards, I think he's setting Star Wars in the mirror universe where everyone is evil or something.

I'd be laughing SO DAMN HARD if he somehow 'officially' brought Trek and Wars into the same universe. I might even read some nerd boards to see heads exploding :D

And some reports have them airlifting Ford to the hospital! WTF? Are they that hyper-protective of celebrities that they airlift them over something that's nowhere near life-threatening? (As a chopper pilot, though, I'm sure Ford got a kick out of it.)

When an injury could potentially cost millions of dollars in lost production time it's not surprising they'll pull out all the stops.

I get that all the time at football games.

EMT's asking me "do you want him shipped?" (taken to the hospital by ambulance).

I want to yell. "You're the F#@%&*@ EMT you tell me!!!"

I know they're just trying to get someone else to take responsibility.

That could also mean that the EMT doesn't think it's necessary, but is used to people insisting on it...

Update on Harrison Ford: he has a broken leg.

I'm a little alarmed how the news keeps getting worse.

First: "Harrison hurt his ankle. He's going to be fine."

Next: "Actually, he broke his ankle."

Now: "Harrison suffered a broken leg, underwent surgery, and is beginning rehabilitation."

What's coming out next week? "Contrary to earlier reports, Harrison Ford did not survive his injuries on the set."

I know it's not a movie series based on historical science but of course the Empire isn't gone. Those don't just go away when the leader is killed unless they are already rotten at the core (see Austria-Hungary in 1914). Or look at Rome. People who lived in 476 didn't see the final sack of Rome as the end of that era like we do today. They still had the currency, they still had the infrastructure, the buildings were intact, the only change they would have felt in the next few years would have been that the tax collector likely had a funny accent while they spoke Latin perfectly. Even Romans, who had had a bad century wouldn't have seen it like that. Just another change in a long list of short lived rulers.

As well as other great empires, it still lives on today in a whole variety of ways.

Anyway, of course the original trilogy never touches on what happens after the victory. After seeing the PT I always assumed they'd try and restore what was not *that* long ago. However, in human history it's usually total chaos. JJ and crew could simply rip stuff from the headlines of the past two millennia. There are the local warlords who would gain power with no army stopping them. Maybe the whole thing breaks up into little fiefdoms that immediately begin fighting each other. In between there's enough space for a little ship with hidden nooks and crannies shipping around contraband...

Of course that ship could find something interesting one day, free a few new heroes from captivity and boom, there you go.

Oh well. Too realistic and complex I guess. How's that FOUNDATION movie doing anyway? Oops, development hell :(

^Some good points. People think of the Roman Empire falling in the 5th Century, but forget that it was only the western half that fell. The eastern part continued for almost 1000(!) more years and came perilously close to reincorporating the western part. It probably would have eventually succeeded in restoring the whole empire but for the rise of a Frankish barbarian called Charlemagne.

I can't imagine the Galactic Empire maintained power solely through coercion. If the whole shebang was run the way ships in the Imperial Navy were run--with Sith Lords force-choking to death any officer who failed to work miracles--it wouldn't have held together very long. It stands to reason that there must've been a lot of folks who genuinely supported the order that the Empire represented. So, sure, why wouldn't it still exist in some form?

The only problem with that idea is that what was not too long ago was nearly as bad as the Empire. Based on the PT treatment of the Old Republic, I doubt very much that anybody was pining for a restoration of the prior order.

An ineffectual corrupt bureaucracy puppeted by a corrupt plutocracy, and law enforced by a small over-burdened order of sexually repressed religious zealots empowered by a dodgy space radiation that can turn you into a homicidal psychopath if you think and feel the wrong things.
    Yeah, not very stable.

P.S. I like the idea of a significant portion of the Empire still in place.

Getting back to what I said earlier, I want the sequels to subvert some of our expectations.
