You know, a six month delay would move the release schedule to just where JJ originally wanted it to be. You don't suppose JJ and Ford worked out a scheme where Ford pretended to be hurt so they could force Disney to delay the film, do you?

Meanwhile, they've unveiled the first of the new line of action figures.

The Falcon was unfortunately the victim of negligence at the hands of an insane mechanic.

He was just supposed to change the oil, but a few hours later the Falcon had become the first pogo stick ever capable of hyperspeed.

In Gladiator it was a for a couple of scenes for a supporting character. Doing it for the lead role would suck.

It was done pretty effectively in episodes II and III for all of the fight scenes involving either Dokoo or Palpatine. Christopher Lee and Ian Mcdiarmid aren't much older than Ford, so it might be a good idea for him anyway.

And have him take a bunch of comically exaggerated pratfalls.

    Hmm... maybe that's what happened...

As I said, 15 years later you wouldn't even notice. Of course the fans would know. Which equals Automated Hatred, shitstorms and them only watching it 25 times instead of 30.

There's speculation that Ford's injury is being made out worse than what it is by Abrams and Kennedy to purposefully delay the movie to Summer of 2016. They've been pushing for an extension to have more time to work on post production and SFX work, but the head of Disney is adamant he wants it released December 2015. I'm all for them taking the time they need to make the movie good than rushing to meet some fucking release date. Fucking studio slimeballs.

How the hell does one fake an injury? The man spent a week in hospital and is now in a wheelchair and cast. I've broken my ankle in te past and I never needed a wheelchair. I'd say that's a sign it's as bad as is said.

Plus, the first of the spin off movies are slated to being production as well as chances are that they have to complete this one within the allotted time. Personally I don't care a shit if we have to wait an extra six months.

He's an actor. Not only is it part of his job to be able to fake things like being hurt, he works with people who know how to make props, so asking how Ford & Co. could fake an injury is sort of like asking how the POTUS could assassinate anyone, since he's always surrounded by the press whenever he goes out.

That being said, 4-8 weeks is about the amount of time it takes for the bones to knit, and doesn't include things like physical therapy. A little over a year ago, a friend of mine who's in her early 50s, fell and broke her ankle, that put her in a wheelchair, and within a few days of her cast coming off, before she could complete more than a session or two of physical therapy, she slipped on the ice and broke that same ankle again. I've seen one photo of Ford in a wheelchair, and it didn't show the leg that's broken, so there's not really any way to guess at how bad the break might have been or where on his leg it happened. I think that its safe to say Ford's unlikely to be hoppin' galaxies the moment his cast comes off no matter how bad his injury might have been.

No doubt, Disney sent over their own doctors to examine Ford, and to consult with his doctors as to his condition. Ford, however, does have the upper-hand in all of this: Without him, Hamill, or Fisher, this movie doesn't get made. Sure, they can rewrite it to cover for the lack of his appearance, but its going to hurt the box office. There are treatments which can speed the healing of a broken leg (they involve injecting a paste made of calcium and other minerals found in bones into the broken area), and Disney would certainly be willing to absorb the costs of treating Ford if he wanted to do that. They could also stick Ford on set, propping up against things and shooting him from various angles to conceal his broken leg. Again, provided Ford wanted to do that.

Its entirely possible, however, that Ford, recognizing that things were being pushed too hard, looked at Abrams and said, "We both know that this film needs more time. The doctors have told me what kinds of things I can do while I wait for my leg to heal. Now, I can do a few things on set before my leg heals, or I can tell the suits at the studio, 'Look, I'm an old man, and I'm not going to do anything until my leg heals, so you're just going to have to shoot around me.' which should buy you enough time to do this film right."

The important thing, however, is that Tom Cruise has said he is not going to be in the film!

Not directly related to the film, but July 13th is Harrison Ford's 72nd birthday!

Yes, but in fairness at the time of filming AOTC, Lee was only seven years older than Ford is now.

That was the problem and why the fights were NOT effective in the prequels. As someone who went into the film knowing that Lee was already in his eighties I knew that I was watching a younger stunt double sharing screen time with CGI and all Lee had was a few close ups. Took me out of all the action scenes he was involved with - and I still feel that way whenever I see them now.

Plus, being in ones eighties is different from being in your seventies. It's like saying that a forty year old athletes still have the pace of a 30 year old one, which is clearly not the case, and even more notable the older you get.

Still a big difference at that age. In the 6 years since my father was Ford's age he has noticeably slowed down - and that's despite being pretty fit and healthy.

Um no, he's not. He's really quite frail now. Dump your desire to disagree and go check out his most recent YouTube video.

Plus, Lee still being alive does not mean the prequels were credible, nor does it mean that Ford will be running around at 85. So what the fuck are you trying to argue?

That element of the prequels was credible. We're talking about an old guy bolstered by the Force. For it to not be credible, you have to turn away from the Force as a concept within Star Wars, which then means, well, none of the six movies were credible, nor will the 7th succeed either.

Nah. See, I agree with what Plinkett from Red Letter Media says in that it isn't how they would fight. I mean, do you really expect Yoda to be a spaz monkey? No, of course not. Yoda and Lee would be like the Zen masters who calmly walk into a fight, and whack people with a single blow. Think Flynn in Tron: Legacy.

Lee's character (And when did he become an apprentice, anyway? I mean, I can't see somebody at the age of 60 saying, "You know, I think I'd like to be a Sith apprentice to a guy younger than me!" can you?), should have been like a millstone, slowly crushing his opponent, while seeming to exert little, physically. Remember, Vader did a shitload with just his two fingers in the later films.

I can agree to a certain extent regarding Yoda, which is why I thought his best fight scene moments were when he absorbed or deflected the Sith lightening with his bare hands (much the way Vader did with blaster bolts in ESB). But I figure Dooku saw himself as toying with Anakin and Obiwan, and purposefully took on their more athletic style just to shove in their face that youth was not the only source of vigor.

Keep in mind, too, that Palpatine did pretty much what you describe, killing Kit Fisto and the other Jedi accompanying Mace Windu with a minimum of effort. And then he quickly switched to a force based tool when it was clear that Windu was a better man with the blade.

The problem with the prequels, was they were first drafts.

The first draft of Star Wars would have been ghastly.

Han as a green bug man, Luke and Obi-Wan mashed into one character, Han and Mace Windu mashed into one character, C3PO voiced by Art Carney....

    Bleh.
