Yeah, but was there a death star in orbit last time you flew? I don't recall seeing one when I was there.

I have to think if he actually had the goods, he'd post more than what he did. It'd be such a juicy story that he'd be guaranteed a kajillion hits on his site, with people returning to check on how it matches up with other rumors that come out.

Pretty vague, really, and a couple of things don't seem right. But if it's true, then they not only aren't worrying about EU continuity, they are pretty much completely erasing the EU altogether.

Glad to see Abrams is going back to the old-school "lived-in" look vs. the pristine shit from the prequel trilogy.

A galaxy-wide search mission for Luke Skywalker does sound familiar. That's been part of previous rumours as well.

I can believe a "Search for Luke" storyline, but not to return his light saber to him. That's silly.

And there's no reasonable way that Luke's hand (I presume that's the hand in question) could find its way to another planet. If it fell out of Cloud City (and given that's what happened to Luke himself, that seems likely), then it's deep in Bespin's atmosphere. If it didn't, it still wouldn't be floating around space.

I also don't like the idea that Luke disappeared after Endor. There's no reason for that to be true; indeed, Luke seems on the verge of living happily ever after with his friends at the end of RotJ.

So, I hope what's being reported is not true. I suspect either (1) it isn't or (2) the story has been badly mangled in transmission to us.

So, you're saying that Luke couldn't have gotten his replacement hand lopped off? Because, if this story is true (which I doubt), it seems to me that the most logical explanation is that Luke's out wandering the galaxy and somehow gets his hand lopped off, it is this hand which the characters find and take to Han and Chewie, who're able to ID the owner by the fact that it says, "Property of Luke Skywalker" on the butt of the lightsabre.

I suppose, but even still. Space is kinda big, and severed hands shouldn't be floating across interstellar distances. And things like hands would burn up falling into an atmosphere.

I hope the story isn't predicated on a severed hand floating in space just happening to reach an inhabited planet. That's so far-fetched, it's going to be difficult to overcome.
Even if you found a light saber, why would you go looking for its owner? That's a very, very weak premise.

This all makes me think that (if bits of this are true), we're missing some huge story element. Because there would have to be more.

Sounds like an Enid Blyton tale, Five Go Looking for Luke, where Timmy the dog finds a severed hand during a thrilling trip to the beach. Lawks are to be had, and every one makes it back to Coruscant in time for tea and biscuits :garamet:

Don't mind the idea of Luke disappearing after ROTJ, but you'd expect either him leaving a message or a fairly intensive search if he'd been taken. Plus it'd mean ROTJ needs renaming to the The Very Brief Return of the Jedi Before Buggering Off and Misplacing Limbs because, other than Luke, there were precisely zero other Jedi by the end of the movie.

Remember, this script is written by a guy who had a supernova threatening the Milky Way in one movie and magic Khan blood in another movie. Far fetched items are basically his stock in trade.
Suppose after the Revolutionary War George Washington had gone missing and thirty odd years later a pistol belonging to him showed up in a strange place. Don't you think that people would immediately try to find Washington? Luke's a pretty big hero in the Star Wars universe, so if something of his turns up after he's been missing for decades, I'd think folks would be wondering WTF was up.

Or, it would solidify the meaning of Vader turning back to Anakin...just before croaking.

You can technobabble big things away. Superdupernova? Subspace weapons, Q's having a spat, Janeway doing something stupid, Archer doing something stupider. Magic blood? It's the polynanothingummies obviously.

Having to wrangle up something for something as dinky as a hand a the starting point for a search is silly.

No, I don't think they would, not without something solid showing he'd been near recently. If you'd found something of his in the middle of the Nevada desert, I suspect the chances of a nationwide search kicking off would be pretty small.

Some people would say the same thing about looking for a sippy cup that once belonged to a carpenter.

Its not a nationwide search, however, the sabre is delivered to Han and Chewie. That's like giving Washington's newly found pistol to Jefferson and Adams. People who knew him, and shared some pretty important adventures with him. They'd almost certainly start investigating, even nobody else did.

I'm still not buying that a hand gripping a lightsaber is going to safely make it to the ground from space.

Maybe its in a spacesuit glove? Again, I don't necessarily think the site has the info that they claim, but it doesn't seem screwy compared to some of the other stuff JJ's done in his films, IMHO.

We've all assumed that after RotJ that Luke restored the Jedi order and returned order to the galaxy, but if this rumor is true, could it be that Lea is the one who restored the Jedi order? Also, why would Luke just disappear after RotJ and not attempt to find more force sensitive people? Did he just give up, did he get captured, what happened?
