Ah, flashlight disagrees, , but I find that quite gratifying. Clearly the truth of the article makes him uncomfortable. #winning
Not replying to your stupidity (like the "I know you are but what am I" you just did) =/= on ignore. I enjoy watching you make a fool of yourself while thinking you're the smartest person in the room. This will be the last reply to you on this, so don't bother starting your games.
I've said this before about Christians, that if they can cherry-pick their book to be nicer people, fine, but still....bullshit. This bit in particular... The guy who spread the faith by the sword, in his day, by his hand?!?!?! Are you fuckin' kidding me?!?!?!
Which followers might those be? The ones who fell to fighting amongst themselves within minutes of the "prophet"s death because they couldn't agree on who the legitimate heir was?
Mohammed was not a nice guy. When he wasn't raping nine year olds or ordering all Jews and polytheists killed or enslaved he alternated back and forth on killing or just repressing and taxing nonmuslims. The man really was a loony shit stain and anyone holding him up as a model which anyone should follow isn't someone who should be accepted in civilized society.
Been interesting to see some of the "kick a hornets nest, get stung" comments about today in the media. Hopefully those saying it will get burgled and the police helpfully inform them they shouldn't buy nice things if they don't want them stolen On the BBC last night it profoundly depressing to hear it suggested that maybe we need some kind of anti-defamation law for religions Any decent deity ought to need legal help about as much as they'd need a starship.
You want to compare ancient histories? Let's talk about the Inquisition, the Conquistadors, etc., etc., etc. If you'd like to join me in the 21st century, we can talk about the 1.6 billion Muslims today whom you lot choose to condemn along with Islamist terrorists. You're already on record as condemning every Palestinian man, woman, and child because of the terrorists who are as cavalier about their own people's lives as they are about others. May as well continue down that path.
The "few terrorists" really do get a lot of support in muslim countries. Not a majority but it is fair to say around a third of the population either financially supports or ideologically supports terrorism against nonmuslims. When it comes to terrorist attacks in muslim countries to kill muslims who the terrorists deem not religious enough then their support drops off into the single digits but a large number like it just fine when they are killing other people.
Let's try an analogy you'll understand: Islamist terrorists: Peaceful Muslims :: Geeks Who Threaten Rape and Murder : _________.
As always, you think too small. Islam is a broken religion. It suffered its schism literally within days of Mohammed's death and has never recovered. Christianity at least took a little bit longer, and has since had its reformation and grown out of its bronze age origins.
That there are moderate islamo-muzzies isn't the issue. The issue is that to be a moderate islamo-muzzie requires an intellectual compromise and a willful disregard for many of the basic tenants of the faith that their holy book teaches. And even if moderate islamo-muzzies wouldn't kill infidels themselves, the vast majority of the islamo-muzzie population endorses violent retribution against infidels and turns mass murderers into folk heroes. By contrast, the New Testament doesn't call for the murder of those who refuse to accept Christ as their Savior.
You're the one condemning 1.6 billion people for one guy's actions in the 7th Century. And I suspect in the event some geek follows through on his threats, you'll go all Gunforge and claim it was insanity.
Bullshit. That's directly contrary to what the author states. Since he is an actual practicing Moslem scholar, I'm pretty sure he knows more about the religion than you do, so I'll take his word over yours.
Exactly. You're hung up on the words of one man, not the actions of the billions who came after. May as well condemn today's Jews for not slaughtering their neighbors a la Yahweh. (Israel, OTOH...)
So let's say in 1000 years there's a religion built around "Mein Kampf", but they've cherry-picked it to the point where it's all huggy-kissy, kittens, rainbows, and campfire songs. I'd be out of line pointing out what a cocksucker Hitler was in that world?
No, you wouldn't, but that's unrelated to an article about assholes in the 31st century adhering to the wrong message.
