I'm underwhelmed. The AMC guy who calls them "The Fantastic Four Babies" is right.

I mean, really, THIS GUY (Miles Teller) is Reed Richards?

Kata Mara as Sue Storm seems like an okay choice...

Johnny Storm has gotten a pigment enhancement in Michael B. Jordan...

And, finally, Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm...

Man, I don't want to scream "Wrong Font!" but, geez, this crew doesn't seem to retain much of what I associate with the FF. Teller and Bell, in particular, seem worlds apart from anything recognizable as the characters they're playing.

    I guess time will tell.

I swear sometimes the casting goof just picks up the latest Teen magazine to see who's hot and casts them, hoping to pull in the teen and just-pot teen crowd. They don't care about the characters or anything. Just pull in the masses and collect the cash

Looks like they're going off the Ultimates template with them being so young, and the initial run of that wasn't bad, so we'll see.

Provided they have a damned good scriptwriter, and a damned good director who can keep them acting as the character they are supposed to be and not just looking pretty for the camera, yeah, maybe.

Aren't Sue Storm and Johnny Storm supposed to being siblings? What, are they gonna retcon one of them being adopted? Or maybe it'll be a "merged family" retcon.

It's worse than one movie being bad.

Fox wants to build its own shared universe off this.
This iteration of FF is going to meet the X-Men.

Yes, instead of Fox, Sony, and Disney just sitting their lawyers around the table to decide how they'll divide up the money, so we can have Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Ellen Page, Andrew Garfield, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, and Mark Ruffalo in the ultimate movie ever, this is the nibbled soup bone we're going to get.

    Weep now.

Makes casting Affleck as Batman seem genius in comparison.

I agree. These choices are terrible. A good choice for Reed Richards, if they wanted to stay true to the comics, would have been George Clooney. They don't seem to take the character of Sue Richards seriously, therefore any starlet with big tits can be plugged into the role. Johnny Storm is Sue's brother, a teenager who loves the girls and fast cars. And Ben Grimm? First off, I'm convinced at this point there's just no way to make The Thing look decent using practical effects. He's gonna have to be CGI a la The Hulk from Avengers.

So they'll throw hundreds of millions at a project guaranteed to fail before one frame of film is shot. Hooray for Hollywood! :dayton:

I noticed it as soon as they dyed Alba's hair and give her blue contact lenses so she'd at least look somewhat like the classic Sue Storm... which made me wonder why they didn't just hire another actress to begin with.

Because she was on a hit show, and scraping TV is easier for lazy casting directors than finding unknowns.
Also, less risky, since they assume we're all dumb, and won't watch something unless we know everyone who's in it already.
    Also, money.

The latest rumors had Fox wanting to scrap Josh Trank and his "vision" of the FF and go back to the drawing board. I would strongly encourage them to do so.

I think we need to think about this in terms of natural selection.

Imagine a movie production kind of person -- director, developer, writer, consultant, whatever -- who knows the Marvel source material, knows how to make movies, and cares deeply enough about both to do a really good job. Which studio will they join?

Good. Now consider who is left to do Marvel movies for other studios.

Of course it is. The Fantastic Four suck to begin with and have always sucked. You can't polish up a turd.

(Although I believe Mythbusters proved you apparently you can polish a turd... but it's still a turd.)

Thank god that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Avengers: Age of Ultron are doing Inhumans before these hack can get to them. Hopefully they can do an end-run around Galactus and the Watcher too.
