Here we go, the first trailer for Terminator: Genisys is now online.

Gives me a big, helping mouthful of.....meh. Thoughts?

    Interesting. A few thoughts:

    1. I found that I readily accepted Emilia Clarke as Sarah Conner. She even seemed to have some of the same vocal patterns as Linda Hamilton (listen to how she screams "Run!").

    2. I like the story looping back on itself.

    3. Asian shapeshifter dude is very reminiscent of Robert Patrick.

    4. The f**king Golden Gate Bridge is apparently where every action movie happens now.

    5. I hope the young Arnold effect in the final film is much cleaner than the "rotoscoped" image taken from the first film they have now.

I like the premise, but I'm curious as to how John Connor (in the future) doesn't know that a Terminator was sent back to an earlier time than to where Kyle goes.

And I'm also hoping that there's another Terminator vs Terminator fight where they beat on and toss each other around.

Really? I thought she was awful.

Who not just get Patrick? They got old Arnie after all.

Well, T3 essentially postulated the idea of an ever changing timeline where each side adapted itself, so surely this would be a case of Skynet's next move?

Meh, good enough for the old 80's footage they had to work with, I'll go with it if I have to.

Come to think of it, it's kind of meta, like the 2010's film quality and effects are stepping into the old movie.
Yeah, I'm on board for this.

That's a little too meta for me... :garamet:
So am I. I'm actually interested in seeing this.

I didn't realize that shapeshifting Asian dude is Byung-Hun Lee (from Red 2 and the G.I. Joe]/i] movies)!

I wonder whether Sarah Connor now holds a record for iconic SF roles played by the most actors.

She's been played by 4? 5? How many Doctors have there been? We're getting close to a dozen by now. IIRC, Sherlock Holmes holds the record for having been portrayed by the largest number of actors on screen, and at least some of those stories would count as SF.

    There were 5 John Connors.
Sarah being dead for T3 and Salvation hobbled her a bit.

I have to say, I'm interested in this film. I've only seen the first two (and couldn't stand the second one), but this one does seem to have possibilities.

Funny, I predicted back in '92 when T2 came out the course of the series.

Lead up to Judgement Day, future war, the moments before T1 spoken by Reese in verbal flashback, and new timeline.

    They haven't really even deviated.
They got slowed down by rights changes and studio collapses, but 20 years later, here we are.

Good points. I realize I meant only versions of the character within one continuity, and I sort of disregard kids because, you know. The Doctor is a special case, with each version being a new version even within the story and thus somewhat a new role.

Ok... watched the trailer on the laptop (previously on the phone) and OMG looks like there will be a Terminator vs Terminator fight, but it will be Arnold vs Arnold fight. Awesome!

It actually looks interesting. And a Arnold vs Arnold fight? Cool.

I will say the school bus was pushing it a little bit. Can't really see one flipping over that high like it was doing cartwheels.

And in the chopper scene Arnold should have said, "I'm going to the chopper!"

It looks like it might not completely suck, if done right. It really does need to simplify the whole timeline thing.

I'm still of the opinion that the first two movies would've been best for Terminator.

Dude, you can front flip a semi and trailer with some quarter inch cable anchored into a Gotham mailbox, why should flipping a bus be so hard?

Liked the trailer, this may not suck.

    You mean like here?

Is that a very young Sarah Connor being carried by Arnold?

    Original Arnie

Everybody should probably read the link above, since there's a number of things that it talks about which I missed in watching the trailer, and didn't catch until they went shot-by-shot (though I totally noticed the hair thing).

Yep. It appears a Terminator strikes at her in childhood and she's saved by a young Arnie model who will age into the silver-haired one we see later. This changes the timeline, which is why Sarah is already in bad-ass mode when Reese first arrives. My guess is, given that the scene with very young Sarah is in the woods, that it's at her family's cabin in Big Bear, referenced in the first film.

Notice the machine behind him is different. The footage of Arnie has been lifted and superimposed on a newly shot scene. As a still, this looks fine, but the video of this seemed like an obvious bit of rotoscoping.

Obviously they've also removed Cameron's trademark blue light.

    ;)

This is one of those films where they'll no doubt be reworking everything right up until the last minute. The footage we're seeing is probably just made up of first pass renders and rough cuts, with the final print looking substantially different in some scenes.

I can't link to it as I'm on my phone, but a new trailer has dropped and they'll be airing it during the Super Bowl.

I like it, seems to be completely embracing the craziness, rather than the half assed hybrids that T3 and Salvation were.

Agreed. As much as that trailer spoils a lot of the plot, it certainly looks a heck of a lot better than the last two Terminator movies.
