I don't know who's cock Jai Courtney's sucking to land all these rolls but he must give some damn good head because he's the worse part in any movie he's in. He can't disappear soon enough.
Word of mouth seems to be similiar to the views expressed here so I'll check it out. I've seen differences between audience and critic views before but never to this extent.
Unless it's full of people wearing ironic glasses sitting around a starbucks drinking lattes and making meta film references while listening to some band you've never heard of, or it's a marvel movie, critics are gonna crap all over it.
I saw this movie last night and was reluctant about it. Surprisingly it was pretty good. A lot better than the last two by far, but T2 is my favorite. I think it's definitely worth seeing and Arnold was awesome in this. I give it a B.
I'm the complete opposite. I thought 4 was a steaming pile of shite. 3 wasn't too bad and has much better re-watch value than 4. But neither lived up to the first two.
Just reiterating what's already been posted upthread, but it looks like the critics really dropped the ball on this one. The film is scoring pretty well with audiences at rottentomatoes.com and imdb.com.
Very much a popcorn/fan service movie. Even by the standards of time travel plots, the timeline and story are incoherent messes that don't hold together or make any sense. And even by the standards of over-the-top action movies, the action sequences are absurdly ridiculous. And the number of times a Terminator had a free shot to kill Sarah or Reese and just stood there looking stupid was too many to count. All that said, if you shut down your brain and just enjoy the pretty explosions and other disasters without wondering how ordinary people walk away from them without injury, don't try to make any sense of the plot or figure out the timeline, and spend your time trying to pick out all the references to T2 and the original movie, there's plenty of fun to be had. Basically, the critics and the audience both have this one right. Genisys is a pretty bad stand-alone movie (27% Tomatometer, 4.7/10 rating from critics), but as a nostalgic trip back to the first two Terminator movies and as a sequel to those movies it's a fun time and a major step up from the previous two entries in the movie franchise (69% positive reviews, 3.75/5 rating from audience reviews).
It's the weird thing about the Terminator franchise in that it can change it's tone wildly between films. The first terminator film was a "hard R" sci-fi chase-horror. Cameron took that and turned it into a PG-13 chase-action with an interesting but shallow exploration of humanity. 3 was a straight-up action film with elaborate stunt and fight scenes, with a few comedy moments, but was very raw, if Arnie hadn't been running for governor I think it would have come out cleaner. Salvation went to a bleak future and was more character driven, If they had moved the death row opening and set it as a flashback after the big reveal I think a lot of the criticism of the movie would have vanished, spawned a small book series that was far better than the film. TSCC was a pretty decent action/mystery show with some nice modernization and expansion of the lore and characters.
Well, in its debut weekend it got its ass handed to it by movies that were 3- and 4-weeks old. Not good.
I saw it on Friday. I liked it. It was a fun movie with plenty of nostalgia bits, some good Arnie humor. Lots of stuff crashing and blowing up. I liked it better than 3 and 4. I think maybe the negative reviews are simply because nothing will ever top T2.
I think the negative reviews are based more on animosity towards Arnold than on the actual quality of the movie itself. It's no Picasso but certainly not the piece of shit critics are trying to portray it as.
Yeah, I was okay with the ending as it was, but somehow I knew there would be the typical hand from the rubble scene. I wish Hollywood would stop assuming a sequel is coming and just make self contained stories. Spider-Man comes to mind.
A sequel, or sequels were going to made regardless. Apparently in a few years the rights to the Terminator franchise go back to James Cameron in 2019(?). Three movies were planned and are going to made from what I've read.
Somebody pointed out that Cameron is busy with Avatar sequels, so it's highly unlikely he will bother with Terminator. It makes no sense to make sequels just because Terminator rights go back to Cameron that he'd be interested in the franchise.
The rights were sold off by Halcyon, after Skydance bought them they had to either use the rights or let them go. The release dates for the next two have already been set. So it was either lose the money used for the rights, or make the movie(s). With DVD/BluRay sales and box office sale, the movies should make some profit for the company. 2019 is still 4 years out, Cameron could still make new films of the Terminator franchise after that. The sequels to Avatar are scheduled to all be released by 2019, which clears him to be able to make Terminator films again.
Honestly I wouldn't mind a sequel. I liked this one. I think it's sad that they aren't making money now, but hopefully word of mouth will boost DVD sales. I just find it annoying when a movie assumes a sequel will happen. In this case, I suppose it wi happen no matter what, but still... As for Avatar, I thought it was a great movie, but man are they taking their time with these movies.
