Of the "Big 3" Luke is the one I least care about. Han far and away is the best character in the SW universe.

Better than Darth Vader? Do me a favour.

Han is fun to watch, but that's more down to Ford than the character. The character is pretty basic when you think about it. Whether this new film with add any depth remains to be seen.

Star Wars is about the Skywalker family and that has been the main focus. The story also is about the force and the eventual restoration of peace in the galaxy as well as the restoration of the Jedi. Han is a great character and in a lot of people's mind, either the star or the most popular. Han is not a Jedi or force sensitive, he's one of several comanders of the Republic Army.

It's made very clear in the OT that Luke is the last best hope for not only the Jedi, but also the Republic and the Galaxy. He alone knows the ways of the Jedi and how to use the force properly. His role in the new trilogy should be significant and the events of the OT shouldn't be deminished. The focus should remain with Luke and the Skywalker family, not Han.

Luke doesn't change a whole helluva lot in the series. As even the Red Letter Media review of ep 3 points out, he never sought power, so there was nothing to truly lure Luke to the dark side. Anakin for the pisshead emo he was had a motivation of saving his babymamma.

Absolutely it's all about Ford. No doubt. "Likable Rogue" is a very timeworn trope.

But then everything about Vader is a trope in one way or the other anyway - the whole point of SW was to evoke the "old school" serials and storytelling. And no, I don't find him overly outstanding as a character, hes a one-dimensional villain throughout the OT, nd only very mildly sympathetic at his death...then you get the PT and find that, yeah, he was pretty much always an asshole.

James Earl Jones's line delivery makes Vader.

Thulsa Doom was the far superior JEJ villain character IMHO.

Okay, still don't know who this Doom guy is, but that's clearly JEJ. With long hair.

Even beyond that, the prequel series was pretty much all about getting Anakin into the Vader suit and very little else. Even Obi-wan, who could've been an interesting character in his own right, got shafted.

Plus, as mentioned, Vader was pretty one-dimensional, and after rewatch in the OT, not even the guy nearest the top of the food chain, so turning him into Space Jesus doesn't work, either.

Yeah, because remembering marquee actors in culturally significant films is geeky.
Having a functioning memory cortex? Totally for nerds.
What I had for lunch yesterday? Pfft, what do I look like, a homo?
The color of my own shoes?
What, do you actually expect me to look down, remember long enough to raise my head all the way back up, and transmit the information to my mouth?
Why don't I just shoot glitter out my ass, and squeal like a girl?
    Gawd!

I'd dispute what you say about Kenobi. He got the best new actor of the entire prequel trilogy and not only do people want to see him again, but nobody really had a problem with the recasting. I'd say that him and, to a lesser extent, Palpatine are the ones who came out of it with their dignity intact.

I think I worded it awkwardly originally, but that's what I was getting at...they had talent in the actor, but rather than give him more focus and have him as the lead or co-lead, the focus was on Anakin being coocoo for cocoa puffs, that stilted excuse of a romance with Padme, and space politics.

At a minimum, TIIC could've developed the supposed friendship with the two better, have Anakin be at least five years older than he was in Episode I, and if show how Qui-Gonn's death early in Obi Wan's training set the stage for the poorly trained Anakin.

There's some speculation that this guy could be Supreme Leader Snoke. I gues we'll find out when Rebels returns. I do remember something about inquisitors being involved in Episode 7 and it would be a good way to introduce the character and explain how he rose to power.

In all fairness, calling Conan the Barbarian a "culturally significant film" is something only a geek would do. :diacanu:

It's a great 1980's cheese-fest starring some well-known actors, but it's not a particularly good film nor is it culturally significant outside geekdom.
