Anyone notice that the cop made a clear effort to only touch the female student in a nonsexual manner? Grabbing her only by her knee and her hands.

What would you have him do when asking the student to stop texting several times and the kid refuses to comply, then asking the student to leave and the kid refuses to comply?

I've been in class with those types. Don't wanna learn and bizarrely don't wanna leave when asked to go. A far better teacher than Dayton would most likely take a similar action.

When I was at school teacher took similar actions. There's being a bad educator, but this is about discipline in the classroom.

Rick is clearly far too soft and of the kind of people responsible for the pathetic toothless teacher culture we have in the UK now.

But has spanked the monkey, flogged the dog, polished the pope, done the five finger shuffle, tugged the slug, bumped the worn, shuffled the carrot, beat the meat, pulled the pud, pulled the pork, and had a date with Pamela Handerson.

I was raised in the 60s and 70s. Corporal punishment was the norm. However, when I became a parent at very young age - 18 - and I knew the father was not going to be around, and I knew that one day, that male child would be bigger than me, I knew I needed to find a way to make him mind without resorting to violence.

If a young naive child could figure this out, you would think an adult who makes a living being around children would be able to figure out the same thing.

How is simply moving the chair outside of the classroom without hurting anybody violent?

As described, he didn't touch "her" (Dayton didn't specify gender that I'm aware of) either directly or indirectly.

edit: Now I see the "her".

Despite not being a parent I have helped out in depth with a few single moms and other busy parents. It depends on the age of corporal punishment. Even if you are gentle with corporate punishment blow 6 or seven the child doesn't quite get how it works. I agree with the light spanking thing at that age to show they were wrong, but that confuses those kids for social interaction. The first child I did that with was at the mother's instructions for discipline. Then her daughter developed a problem for hitting people on the but when they did things she did not like. It took a little bit of explaining and observation, but it was clear to the mother and myself the child was imitating the behavior we did in situations where she was trying to show other kids they had done wrong, or to express to her mom that mom was doing something she thought was wrong.

I will take a teen over my knee if I have to because they can have shit explained to them so they can understand, but younger children may get confused about the reason for spankings when they are not yet aware of their place as a child. That is especially problematic in the 2-3 area where they think they are god of the world.

Sometimes kids give you no alternative but to move them. You would not let an adult sit in the middle of someplace and disturb the peace. As of the teenage years I think forcibly removing them is what you have to do. You can be nice and not charge them criminally, but that is a life lesson that is easiest to teach them then (or should have been taught sooner.) There is a big difference between forcibly moving an obstanent child and spanking or even verbal discipline. Scool authorities and security should be trained in proper procedure for the removal of a stubborn child. No, you cannot allow that child to win without showing every other kid that is what you need to do. Those kids pick up on strategies top screw with teachers.

If they will not get out of their chair you take them out of it. You take their phone within vision of every other kid showing consequences of the action. On top of that all you make sure that every kid knows that child is in a world of punishment and problems at home and at school for their actions. If you do not do those things in a school then the kids will pick up on the reality that they can do that and get away with it, and you will have more that will. The more silly you look trying to deal with the disobedient teen the harder you need to come down on that one.

I will tell you, I dealt with large groups of people as a paintball ref. If you want to maintain control of them you have to be in charge and let them know they will not win with you. It could have never been done well without the backing of the management either. Even if they told me to cool things off they always made sure that came from me or the ref doing it because otherwise the players would catch on and run you over. There were groups of kids who came up for their birthdays. The parents were brought aside and we let them know we try to be nice but we will not allow them to break our safety rules and continue playing. I did not care if it was the birthday boy, I would rather him cry the whole way home and they hate me for ruining his birthday than to have them lose an eye or break a leg and have the hospital and permanent injury be their memory. You let one person get away with something unsafe and you will have 2 or 3 doing it the next time. After dealing with the problem child on the field you make sure to tell the rest of them that things will be a lot easier and nicer if you follow the safety rules, and then you actually have to be more pleasant and jovial to show them you are in charge and easy to deal with while that person was a problem and screwed things up for everyone.

This modern bullshit of let the teacher be walked on is the reason why kids feel they can do stuff like that. In my high school you did not stay in your seat like that because you knew you were done if you did not go to the admins office. One kid in my grade actually tried to defy our physics teacher like that. The teacher was a short friendly soft spoken asian guy. You could push him out of the way easy. This guy tried to leave class and that littlei guy stood in the much larger kids way. Then he called the office. The kid tried to run to his car, but he did not go through the teacher. He jumped out the second floor window and broke his leg. The teacher felt bad he made that choice, but you would have never considered hitting a teacher back in my day. You would be hauled off to juvie hall for that sort of thing. The teachers i know talk of how they have kids who have assaulted them still in school with them. They let those kids assault them because if they were to fight back they would have been punished by the school and sued by the parents for defending themselves. There is a procedure they have to go through to get security today. We never had security in my high school and no one did these things.

WTF!! Did Async get a dual?

    I'm not reading all that.

All I can tell you, after having been around children all my life - I have siblings much older than me and siblings much younger - lots of nieces, nephews cousins, and children of my own. So there are always children of every age around. And, while a child between 2 and 5 are capable of understanding immediate rewards and immediate punishments (for the most part), even they understand when you speak to them. If you treat a child with respect, that child will learn respect - even if you are only with that child for small amounts of time, as in Dayton's case - 1 hour a day, 5 days a week.

I was once a teenager. I had teenage friends. In our ill-spent youth, we made lots of mistakes. But, the teachers we think back on fondly and remember the most were the ones who treated us with dignity. Not, as objects to be forced to bend to their rule.
