You don't know what you're talking about, and you apparently don't know what anecdotal means (hint: it's what you repeatedly do when you talk about your personal experience in lieu of having a cogent argument.)

The ridiculous number of guns in the US is not a matter of dispute, so you going on about it as if you're telling people something is pointless. You are unable and unwilling to deal with the logical arguments that you've been presented with.

Hmmm......so if I offered up the suggestion that everyone not registering their car be punished via death you would be okay with that? Or anyone assaulting someone with a deadly weapon of any type be punished via death you would be okay with that? Because not registering a potentially deadly weapon (a gun) versus actually assaulting someone (the suspect is 300 pounds and the victim is 100 pounds) and beating them almost to death is the same thing, right? Just trying to clear this up.

So take 300 million guns off the table and lay out the logical arguments for me. Keep it simple, I'm from the US.

The arguments were laid out already. I suggest that you re-read them.

And 300 million guns are the problem, so they aren't off the table.

But you can't get the 300 million guns. Not only are they Constitutionally protected, they are protected by people who have 300 million guns - and lots and lots of ammunition, probably more than the rest of the planet combined. So you can go ahead and rule out "force" as a mechanism.

I would wager strongly that despite the stereotypes, most American gun owners have little interest in actually "fighting" to keep those guns.

It would be more like "give them up and gripe".

And why would they give them up? After about the third cop gets killed by an irate gun owner in the living room, the police aren't going to be showing up again. Plus, the police are the ones who trade guns like a flea market. My housemate has his ammunition provided by the policeman who now owns my old Glock. It's pretty hard to enforce gun confiscation when the enforcers are gun nuts. Lots of them hang out in gun stores just to talk about guns.

Disagree to a point: smart ones wouldn't "fight". They would just hide their guns and say "guns? I don't what you are talking about." Then again, I don't know your functional level of "street smarts". You might know people who would give them up - I don't. Certainly nobody sharing my DNA that's for sure.

Good point! Pretty much every hunter, cop and military member are on the same sheet of music when it comes to guns. Fuck I would hate to be the poor SOB cop thinking physically rounding up guns in the US would be like rounding up guns in Australia, Japan or England. :jayzus:

gturner. at least try to act like you're not crazy

By the time the "third cop gets killed in the living room" the police have brought in an armored vehicle and torn the front off your house.......

.....with your neighbors cheering them on and telling reporters about how much they love the police.

It is one thing to put a bumper sticker on your pickup that says

"You can take my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead hands"

It is something entirely different to fight a completely hopeless battle with a SWAT team.

You don't quite get it. Cops didn't volunteer for endless potential suicide missions. They would have to go to pretty much every house in the United States with a full on SWAT raid. After about the hundredth one, they'll start taking casualties, not from the guy in the house they're raiding, but from the neighbor across the street. For gun owners, mass confiscation by people in tactical gear is the nightmare they've been preparing for for generations. It's where'd see America being turned into a police state, and the signal that it's time for the government to be altered or abolished.

The actual self defense capabilities of most American gun owners are a joke gturner.

And the very people who own guns for self defense are generally the ones most enthusiastic for law enforcement.

You're still not grasping it. Supporting "law enforcement" does not mean supporting Gestapo raids aimed at disarming all of America. Second, Except for a few of the big cities, the police are the gun nuts. They just don't want guns in the hands of nefarious young scum bags. They're not going to conduct a single raid on a regular guy's home. They will refuse.

Demographics and politics would have much to do with it too. It's not like these 300,00,000 guns are distributed equally across the US. 1,000 homes in the west side of Manhattan or Seattle might not yield too many weapons.
1,000 homes in my county might be a different story. That's another thing many foreigners don't quite get. WE are a "melting pot" but not everywhere, and in the same density. Zip codes matter!

    I don't get it.

What makes anyone here (or elsewhere) think that several tens of millions of small arms is going to turned several million untrained civilians into the First Mechanized Infantry Division?

I'll tell you what it would do. Those tens of millions of small arms are going to turn millions of untrained civilians into LEGITIMATE TARGETS if it ever came to a serious confrontation with federal authorities

First, the civilians aren't "untrained". Tens of millions of them are veterans, and countless more were police. Even the ones that weren't are really good shots. It's their hobby. Also "federal authorities" are also made up of gun nuts, so the gun owners wouldn't have to target federal authorities. They'd just have to target the people giving orders to the federal authorities. Most of the federal authorities would be okay with this, because a brutal military occupation of the US homeland is the nightmare they joined to prevent, not carry out.

And finally, you've just said your plan is to turn "millions of untrained civilians into LEGITIMATE TARGETS". Why is that mass slaughter of Americans by military personnel "a good thing"? Why would any American want that? Any government that tried it would immediately lose legitimacy.

What would you call millions of Americans taking up arms against the U.S. federal government?

A government that is simply seizing ILLEGAL arms. Not trying to violate the right to free speech or freedom of religion.

Get a clue gturner. Lots of Americans want no part of a bunch of civilians running around brandishing firearms and screaming defiance to lawful authority.

Oh that will really help against armored vehicles and helicopters.

Not to mention being completely leaderless.

Unless you're going to suggest some "respected militia leader" who is going to magically appear to lead such a rabble......

I disagree. I did 20+ years in the military and still work with the military every......single...day. That's 32 years or so totaled. They are the most UNTRUSTING of the federal government of anyone. Why? Because they ARE the federal government and they know how they operate! Thus they would not buy into rounding up guns from average citizens. They know how to manipulate the system (they are part of it) and would end up doing a Sergeant Shultz from Hogan's Heroes......"I see nothing I hear nothing, NOTHING!"

We are not Europe. Most people in the US military know this, and appreciate this. Despite years of attempted politically correct brainwashing (slanted toward liberalism) the boots on the ground troops going door-to-door "know the deal" and trust me, there will be plenty of guns left with the owners. :D The commanders might be liberal (anti-gun) but the working grunts (boots in the neighborhood) are not. But hey, I might be wrong - time will tell!

Just violating the right to keep and bear arms, which is written right below the part about free speech and religion. Second, millions of Americans wouldn't be taking up arms, they'd just be shooting people who are kicking in their doors to violate their Constitutional rights.

Again, the authority isn't lawful if it's in violation of the Constitution of the United States, which everyone in authority took an oath to uphold.

If Obama thinks he can let ISIS come into this country freely, slaughter Americans, and then help them out by using force to disarm all their civilian targets for them, he is mistaken.

 Are you for real? Most of the people in defiance of lawful authority are the criminals (gang-bangers, armed robbers, etc) nobody wants any part of already! Do you really think the average military member doesn't recognize the difference between a 65 year old lady owning a gun and Devontavius Jackson the three time felon?

You'd also have the uncomfortable friction within the unit.

"Corporal, I'm sorry I killed your wife last week, but she had a gun hidden in the drawer."
"I know! I paid $550 dollars for it!"
"But you killed both my parents in October because I left my service rifle in the closet, so evens?"
"Yeah. I reckon. So onward. Let's see if we can avoid killing the lieutenants children this time."

But Democrats and the mainstream media have no clue. Check out the gun story at CBS, which is a slideshow of the most heavily armed states in America. The idiots didn't even know what the data they were looking at meant. So... :loltears:

Florida comes in at number 30, with 10.2 guns for every 1,000 residents. That's a staggering 199,828 registered firearms dispersed among 19,552,860 people. Here, the co-owner of the National Armory gun store helps a client consider firearms in Pompano Beach, Florida.

It gets even funnier. Here's #3:

For every 1,000 residents in Arkansas, there are 41.6 guns. That's a total of 123,130 registered firearms among 2,959,373 people.

Here, salvaged guns sit on the hood of a car after a tornado tore through Vilonia, Arkansas in April 2014.

One house, three long guns sitting on the guy's hood, and they still think there's only 4 guns per hundred people.

They actually printed that story. Made it a slide show an everything. Apparently not one person at CBS has more than two functioning brain cells.

"Hrm.... This data indicates that Americans have far fewer guns than the British. Can we trust it?" :garamet:
"Of course! It comes from the federal government!"

I am on speaking terms with just about everyone in my neighborhood. One of my neighbors would say she doesn't own a gun. She hates guns. But she also has a nice gun collection in her attic. There are one or two houses in the neighborhood that might not have a gun, one because the husband isn't a US citizen yet.

I help her out with all sorts of things. A few weeks ago I was helping her build a fireplace front with stone veneer. I've been talking to her daily for about ten years. I used to buy beer and vodka for her eldest son. I buy fancy cigars for her youngest. ^_^
