This is why I can't get on board the new Ghostbusters, which tread four women as a gimmick to build a plot around, rather than the story coming first.

The original Ghostbusters was gimmick first, and then built on.

    No. It wasn't.

My problem with this is that Feig openly admits he decided that "four funny women as ghostbusters" was a cool idea before even thinking about the story or rest of the creative process. He's doubled down on that by casting his usual cronies as the leads.

Had he worried about the story first and then organically decided women were best for the written characters then I would have no problem (which is why I resent the notion that anybody who dislikes this is a sexist). But that isn't what has happened. This is a lazy remake with the genders swapped. Still four members. Still one black. Still a secretary gender swapped. Slimer and Stay Puft in it. Same logos. Ecto 1. Khaki jumpsuits. Almost identical proton packs. Even the villain is said to be the ghost in the "no ghost" logo.

Sorry, but the whole thing is lazy as hell for a reboot.

And here's why I'm not getting on board the new Trek bandwagon, apart from the fact that I'll never sign up for CBS's stupid streaming service.

The jockying for SJW positions has already begun. Which characters will be bi/gay/tranny/mixed/eating disordered/etc etc etc. We'll get the very special episode dealing with Syrian refugees, and global warming, and every other liberal pet issue. :dayton: No thanks.

Even in the good old US of A it's just a very vocal minority. I stand by my words: nobody cares any more. Not among the millions and millions watching a show. If 100 of them are so offended they can be asses to write death threats - fuck 'em.

    Yeah, it was.
Pest exterminating the dead, there's your gimmick.
    The script grew from there.
There's nothing wrong with that if the final product is good.

Four men, no problem, four women, suddenly there's a problem.
    How is that not sexist?
If we lived in a world that's as progressive as it pretends to be, the gender makeup wouldn't make anyone bat an eye.

Original Ghostbusters, SNL alums, remake, SNL alums.
    Not seeing the problem.

Complaining about it being a reboot is legitimate.
The "Vacation", reboot had cool people involved, and still blew goats.
The proof will be in the pudding.

No. I've read the director's own comments. See my comment above.

Sorry, but you've completely dismissed what I've said to retreat behind "you're still a sexist". Sorry. I'm not playing that game, especially when I said I'd have no problem with an all women cast if it were arrived at as part of the creative process.

I care about if it's a good movie.
If it blows, I'll be right next to you booing.
Until then, justifications for hating a movie you haven't seen are lame ego feeding gibberish.

Pretty much a given with NCIS: New Orleans as its part of one of the most powerful television franchises around, has the flagship series as its lead in and he is friends with the Executive Producer Mark Harmon.

That said regarding the new Star Trek series, am I the only one that thinks that ultimately CBS will abandon it being part of their streaming service and end up putting it into their regular television line up anyway?

Problem? It's lame because it's a gender swap that was made for PC reasons. They even gender swapped the secretary as part of the same unfunny joke. I just see it as something to poke fun at, personally.

If they wanted to be 100% PC, Leslie Jones wouldn't be in it.
She's pissed off SJWs with her racial humor on Weekend Update.

They might well do that if they think the result will be more money without hurting their streaming subscription base too much.

Honestly, I don't think so. TNG and maybe the first third of DS9 were the only Trek shows to pull in the big prime time numbers. CBS is all about the crime dramas and if Trek fandom is willing to pay $100 a season on DVDs and Blu-ray, they'll surely pay $5.99 a month for a non-Betman/Braga show.

Depends. CBS knows they could make a lot more money as a hit TV show than a web show could ever make.

Do you want to know the reality? The reality is that a shit ton of people with pirate it. Others, such as the loyal Trekkies, will buy it on blu ray. More will watch it throughout the world as international stations buy it, owing to the fact that Star Trek has global interest.

The problem with you Americans is you have a myopic view where only what happens in America dictates things. If this show is critically acclaimed and of good quality it will sustain.

What makes you think it was for PC reasons? It was a funny movie based on an outrageous plot line. "Oh, you know what would be be funny? Let's do the same thing, but the Ghostbusters are women?!"

Just because an idea is thrown out there, doesn't mean someone is trying to be PC or malign your gender.

I saw a video interview with Paul Feig, and I like what he said to Kate Mckinnon, "I don't do anyone any favors, if you're in my movie, it's because you're awesome".
He didn't lazily go "oh, let's just throw these broads in".

Their collaborations have been (1) funny and critically well-received, (2) financially very successful, and (3) harmonious enough to continue working together. If any one of those things weren't so, he'd go with someone more "awesome."

My cable provider does give me AMC, but it's in Standard Definition.

I have to seek... alternate means... if I want to watch The Walking Dead or Better Call Saul in Hi-Def.

No one to blame but the cable provider. In this day and age, media consumers will always find a way.

Can you list a single American television show or movie that has cratered in the domestic (U.S.) market that has succeeded and been sustained due to overseas (non U.S.) success?

    Hmmm....

Since the new Star Trek will be a steaming based show, they should have more freedom than a broadcast based show. Similar to cable productions, so we may get to see a lesbian Betazed wedding? That would be sweet.
