Unrelated to new movies = Good

    Alex Kurtzman = Very bad

Prime universe and good quality intelligent stories or I'm not interested.

It's the middle of the workday, spud. I just saw this story pop up on Yahoo and am intrigued. But I've no faith in current TV people to do anything right, so . . . :clyde:

Time was I'd have been very excited about this. As it is....meh.

Alex Kurtzman is in charge, so my bet is that it's set in the JJ-verse.

I'm in agreement with the OP. it's best to let the JJverse be a closed loop ala Nolan-Batman.

I'm not real happy about it going on their digital platform unless that gives them the opportunity to break the chains typically associated with broadcast TV and do something really quality. I'm not bothered by Kurtzman producing as long as their is strong creative talent doing the show-running and writing. I dare say Manny Coto ought to be involved based on what he showed in the waining days of Enterprise, just so you have someone that appreciates the basic premise of TOS with a voice rather than giving over to people who want to reinvent the wheel. I don't think you have to be a slave to continuity but you ought to have a healthy respect for the world in which you operate.

Maybe it won't be related to the new films at all. apart from maybe being set in the same time line

You know what? I'm kinda sad they're going a different direction and introducing new characters.

I think it would have been far more entertaining to recast Kirk, Spock, McCoy et al for a third time and then sit back and watch all the geeks go apoplectic. For me, half the enjoyment of JJTrek is watching the idiot fans lose their shit.

I'm looking forward to this but I'm being a little more cautious in my optimism than with the new Star Wars movies.

Either way, I'm looking forward to Dayton's inevitable disappointment review of the new show.

Obviously a blatant attempt to shore up the CBS All Access app. I'll watch the free preview broadcast on CBS Network and decide from there whether its worth paying money for. Can't be any worse than Star Trek: Renegades

I'd have been very happy with recasting the crew (if done well) and set during the gap between TMP and TWOK - just not with re-telling the "5 year" stories

Why should I be disappointed? I'm quite confident there will be lots of space battles. More back to something like the 2nd season of the original series where there were 8 episodes with battles out of 26 episodes (my holy grail standard).

I'm more worried about the ship designs and especially the set designs. I'm afraid they will go all Star Warsy on the ship designs and continue the "Apple store" look for the bridge and other sets.

Focus on surface banalities like this is exactly why the show will probably suck.

    ok.

i hate, hate, HATE how they all create their own little digital fiefdoms. no i won't pay for 23 different subscriptions. netflix it is and the rest shall be pirated as before. get behind hulu or something or suck it.

for the record: as far as these services are concerned, i'm american. wouldn't pay a dime for the choice they offer here

I predict there to be waves of butthurt among so-called Trek fans. Personally, I wish they would just let it die and be done with. Trek had it's time and it's over.

If they are going to resurrect a good space opera, then they need to bring back Firefly!!!

    Firefly was vastly overrated.

I can't understand why some are so adamant that Star Trek be allowed to die? Even more so knowing that isn't how things are done in the entertainment industry.

Because recent incarnations have been terrible, and those in charge are incapable of producing anything worthy of the name.

Some say the two Abramsverse movies were great (not me but more than a few) and two of these guys were involved in them.

I wouldn't be surprised if that were the wave of the future. Cut out the middleman and soak the viewers directly by the power of . . . TEH INTERNET :Oooo:

People are leaving cable, satellite, broadcast TV and heading to the Internet. The networks are following them and making it easier for them to get what they want without a TV.

I'm not excited about this news. I'm not excited about the SW movie either. If it happens and it's quality, I'll get excited then.

Kurtzman is the new Braga. No thanks.

Forced to pay a monthly fee to watch JJ-verse Trek on CBS's shitty streaming service? No thanks.

New show set in alt-verse where Vulcan is destroyed and we have trans-warp beaming and renegade Starfleet admirals are psychopathic mass murderers No thanks.

Only Ron Moore could have resurrected TV Trek, and if they were serious about rebooting it they should have coughed up whatever cash it would have taken to get him aboard.

This nu-nu-Trek will suck, and suck horribly. Like Anna-level sucking. Where, even if she works on you for an hour and somehow manages through a combination of mouth & hand action to get you off, the resulting orgasm brings nothing but depression & suicidal thoughts. And she doesn't swallow.

Orci, Kurtzman, & Lindelof are the three biggest hacks in the industry. Orci & Kurtzman responsible for destroying the Transformers, and Lindelof responsible for destroying LOST.

Incomprehensible they would trust one of these douchebags with bringing back Trek for a new generation.

Agreed. For all its faults, without J.J Abrams Trek movies this franchise would still be dead. After Voyager, Enterprise and Nemesis Star Trek had been milked to such mediocrity that even the hardcore fans didn't care anymore.
