In general with notable exceptions, I do not like humanoid aliens. If they have aliens they should be truly alien. Referencing the original series, like the Excalbians, Melkotians, Tholians, Horta. Clearly intelligent alien creatures but from a definitely different environment who on some level who can't be understood by humans. And we've had this thread before ecky. Take Star Trek: Original Series. The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine (don't care beyond those).........how much "exploration" did any of these series ever ACTUALLY do? Very little.
So women aren't equal to men then? So what about Sisko? Why is his brown skin an issue when you claim not to be a racist?
Never said women are not equal. Being equal does not mean equally capable in every endeavour and I've given my reasons for my opinion up thread. Avery Brooks was great in Spenser For Hire. I never warmed up to him as the CO in DS9. Didn't care for the surname "Sisko" either.
That doesn't answer the question. You specified that you wanted a white captain and purposelessly left Brooks off your following list. Why is his colour relevant?
I'm a white American male El Chup. I love Star Trek. I want the heroes of what I love to be like me as much as possible? Understood.
Ive not watched any trek in a long time, but im 100% certain that in a DS9 episode (im thinking the one where they salvage bits from empac nor?) Obrien explains that he used to be a soldier, commanding men. He had enough, jacked it in and became an engineer with petty rank. As for the rest, your thoughts on males and white people is probably best explored in the RedRoom. In fact, its probably something you should keep to yourself. If your employer is looking/has looked at your WF posts as you tell us frequently, you really don't want to have something that 'could easily' be interpreted as racist, even if, you are convinced in your own head it's not.
No. I don't understand at all. If the character has ginger hair, will you have a problem with that as well because he doesn't look like you enough?
Im a white Scottish male, i love golf. Does that mean it would be ok for me not to appreciate Tiger Woods as one of the best ever??
@Dayton3 shouldn't be allowed to use Media Central to expound on his racist views, whether he admits that they're racist or not. I'd quite like if this thread wasn't about him, and if he wants to do this, he can do it in The Red Room.
But then they would never actually make captain, because if there were like you they would try and try but never actually make it.
I wasn't the one who brought up the race and sex of the captain. That was brought up by the person who posted a bunch of pictures of suggested actors (and actresses) for the role.
I'm betting that all of the Star Trek captains (outside the Abramsverse) took a lot more than 10 years to reach their goal.
By posting her favorite choices for Captain? If you read anything else into her post, that's entirely on you.
What if they went completely against the trend toward ridiculously young captains (as in the reboot) and cast someone who could bring in an older demographic? And why does a ship's captain have to be as healthy as a Navy SEAL when they mostly sip coffee and order course changes? Let's look at some captains: In the future people will live longer, stay mentally sharp longer, and unlike the US Navy, Starfleet probably doesn't need to have a big swimming requirement. And of course Starfleet ships are completely handicapped accessible. So how obvious does the choice have to be? I say we go with this guy:
Would you guys prefer to go back to discussing the optimal number of episodes with starship battles per season? I say 6-8 our of a 26 episode season. Adjusted of course if shorter seasons are made. Why is everything I say I like about a show called "trolling"?
I would also like it if the new captain was a white, ignorant, racist, sexist hick with autism who is completely incompetent at his job and is abusive towards women and children. I think Dayton is really onto something, and you all shouldn't be so dismissive of his ideas. It would be entertaining to watch.
I know that is a dig toward me. But I was a big fan of NYPD Blue and The Shield. I would not be adverse to a captain similar to somewhere between Andy Sipowitz or Vic Mackey. I wouldn't go as far as Vic Mackey given that very early on in The Shield Mackey murdered a fellow police officer (abeit a rat sent to spy on him). Sipowitz was without a doubt at many points in the series, racist, sexist, and homophobic.
