Ahhhhhh, "murdered". Careful choice of words to ignore Gabby Giffords. ;)

The target is less relevant that the level of violence. The fact is that the weapon used today wasn't casually picked up in Tesco. Furthermore, for all the ridiculous comments like yours, we don't have regular mass shootings and our general homicide ranking in the world is around 80 positions lower than the US. Think about that for a second.

I think Chad got it wrong. The motivation for the attack seems to be a pro-brexiter was mad at a anti-brexit politician for her stance.

I would vote remain btw if I bothered to vote in UK elections (which I am entitled to do but never actually bother).

I wouldn't call mass shootings in the United States "regular". They are not treated as a routine occurrence. Each one of them is major news.

And at least way I see it, being wounded is infinitely better than being killed.

And the vast majority are gang shoot outs, robberies gone bad, and family murder/suicides.

The UK is far worse than the US. You've had 48 members of Parliament or the House of Lords murdered, but we've only had 15 Congressmen murdered.

You've also had 96 members of Parliament commit suicide, and you've executed 73 members of Parliament in a variety of gruesome ways. 19 have been killed in duels, and about 70 more have died in prison or on the lamb. 229 have been killed in battle.

Face it. Your parliament is a death cult masquerading as a legislative body.

Heck, we can't even count beatings or Parliament would be in the thousands.

Records of Members of the UK Parliament

Eight of them disappeared, such as Walter Powell

    Disappearance
The Meteorological Society had borrowed a balloon called Saladin from the War Office. On 10 December 1881 Powell accompanied Captain Templer and Mr. A. Agg-Gardner, brother of James Agg-Gardner M.P., in an ascent at Bath, Somerset. The balloon was carried over Somerset to Exeter and then into Dorset. The crew tried to descend near Bridport but the balloon hit the ground so hard that Templer was thrown out. As a result the balloon rose again, Agg Gardner fell out from a height of about eight feet and broke his leg, and Powell, remaining in the car, was swept out to sea to the south east. He was last seen waving his hand to Captain Templer and nothing more was heard of him.

    Oh well.

Survivability is not the issue here. The fact that so many shootings happen at all is.

My response was less for him and more for anyone else who'd point out that this would've been avoided if the UK had more guns. I know gturner is playing a game because he has no life, but I don't want impression young boys like Federal Farmer getting ideas from his willful ignorance.

So the U.S. hasn't had a sitting member of congress killed since Larry McDonald, Democrat from Georgia and head of the John Birch Society was killed by the Soviets when the shot down KAL 007 killing 269 people.

And the U.S. hasn't had a sitting member of Congress killed while inside the United States since Robert Kennedy was killed in 1968.

Of all the problems the U.S. has, violence directed at legislators is not one of them.

How can you possibly be a UK national? We all lost our British citizenship with the Treaty of Paris in 1783, and the Brits have no intention of giving it back because now we could outvote them five to one.

Even if this is true, unless you've lived in the UK at some point within the last 15 years and had been registered to vote during that time you cannot vote.

I've read it is not "terrorism" because the killer has mental problems, which is quite bizarre IMO. This begs the question if there is a single murderer out there who kills for political reasons who is NOT mentally ill... Especially in democratic countries of today. I can't think of any. Perhaps the guys of the RAF in Germany or IRA, but this has been a while. ETA comes to mind, too. Killing Hitler or Stalin would have been a good, rational idea, and it was tried. But today in the west? Does mental illness exclude "terrorism"? Dunno.... It's up for the experts to decide! ;) However, saying that a killing can't be "real terrorism" because the killer was mentally instable doesn't sound right to me as long as the motive clearly had a political element.

Suspected killer of British lawmaker had ties to neo-Nazi group

LONDON — The man detained by police in connection with the killing of a rising star of British politics had longstanding ties to a U.S.-based neo-Nazi organization and, in the past, had ordered a how-to guide for assembling a homemade gun, according to a watchdog group that tracks extremist behavior.

    ...

According to documents obtained by the Southern Poverty Law Center, the U.S.-based organization that tracks extremist groups, Mair was a long-time supporter of the National Alliance, a once-prominent white supremacist group. In 1999, Mair bought a manual from the organization that included instructions on how to build a pistol, the center said.

    Welp.
