It's cute you think you had leverage in the first place. The EU is going to beat the shit out of the UK during these negotiations if only to send a warning to any other country that's thinking of leaving.
Might be the point. Those who favored "remain" are trying to undermine/change the outcome of the vote, and those who favored "leave" are doing everything they can to solidify it.
Two fold. My home internet died so have had to post using my mobile MiFi. Please, to me honest, not only has the Brexit impacted me more that I thought, but I've also had unprecedented number of enquirers from EEA Nationals who are now very worried. So I haven't really felt like posting a lot the past few days.
Sad, but very very true. The animosity is already on display en masse. The irony is that it just reinforces the EU's failings. I'm just not convinced that that level of bullshit politics we a reason for isolationism.
Those who "seek to undermine" the vote have very good reasons for doing so. This is the most important European event since the Berlin wall fell. You think either side is going to give up just like that?
News flash: neither side thinks they're wrong. And, you'll pardon my saying so, but the "this is too important a decision to be left to the people" position is exactly the kind of elitism that the people supporting "leave" are most against. No, but having put the decision to a vote, the politicians should abide by it. If you think people were angry before the vote, wait until you tell them their vote doesn't matter.
http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/br...-drop-english-official-language-after-n599911 Showing how petty they can be France wants to end English as an official language of the EU. Even though English is the defacto working language of the EU.
If Brexit is ending the free flow of people across borders of the EU won't El Chup have more business than he ever even imagined?
Precisely my point. And, if nothing else, this whole fiasco should expose the sham that liberal elites are in any way concerned about "democracy." They're dead set against it if it doesn't produce the result they want.
Slovenia is not in Austria and it has no FPÖ branch. The state on your map is Carinthia which borders on Italy and Slovenia. I don't have to dig anywhere. I know everything there is to know about this particular party, their ideology (last party on the planet that's directly descended from the NSDAP) and their insane fascist plans for this country. They were the first, they still are the blueprint for all those right wing populists. Also, I know all about them because they are the enemy within. Know your enemy. I really wonder why Carinthia is marked there. If independence movement means a few drunk guys discussing that, the whole country - or all countries - should be colored. There is at least one Austrian state where people sometimes actually think about independence (and joining Switzerland). But that's Vorarlberg, the westernmost mini state. But even they're not serious. Much less so in any other state. So, take this with a huge spoon full of salt.
That, at least, would be truth in advertising. I predict the current rush by the greedy eurocrats to finally get the empire of theor dreams now that the dirty rosbeefs aren't around to block them... Is going to backfire spectacularly.
It's more of a "shoved UP your end" weapon. Brits prefer fists, knives, batons or bottles, though. We're weird like that sexually.
Official languages are kind of stupid in my opinion anyway, but if you have one, does it make any sense for it to not be a native tongue? I agree it's petty to jump on that issue so quickly, but ultimately it makes sense.
The Leave side has already admitted to lying about several major promises made during the campaign. That in and of itself should be justification for another vote.
No sooner did Bill Clinton get elected in 1992, then he reneged on his pledge for a middle class tax cut. I didn't get to vote again.
Bill Clinton was pretty open with everyone about being a liar. I remember one of his aides who defended him by saying "President Clinton has kept all the promises he planned to keep".
So Bill Clinton is still president, and there was never any other vote that reigned in his ability to pass legislation?
Just saying that if every campaign that has lies or deceptions in it justifies a re-vote, we'll never stop re-voting.
No. Official languages are stupid only when you already agree on a language in which to communicate. The US supposedly doesn't have one, but you never have to fear that a police officer or judge expects you to answer questions in Finnish, or follow a law written in Mandarin. The EU needs a language for practical communication, and the language everyone knows is English. That was never because of the UK being a member, but because of the US being what it is.
