I'd like to see Jesus played by a Middle Eastern man. It would be historically accurate (despite the fact he's a fictional character) and it would make this casting look tame.

MJ being Black? Doesn't really matter... it's a realistic reflection of relationships in 21st century multicultural cities.

I may have had an easier time if Sue had also been cast with a Black actress or if either Reed or Ben had been. Now Anne (with an "E" ) you could recast either by having her mixed Miq'maq/Anglo, or setting her origin in Africville, Nova Scotia with Black/White heritage. Either would add a neat dimension to the story because it was hella racist back then... still is.

I could give a fuck who they cast but don't act like fans who've read the comics for years shouldn't expect the characters to look on the screen as they do in the comic. Be original! Create a fucking NEW character and cast whoever the fuck you want. Or don't cast MJ at all.

Yeah, since that's what the argument is about, I'm not sure either. Let us know when you figure it out. Meanwhile, I maintain that making MJ black is no more a change to the basic core of her character than changing her height was; that it is impossible to cast an actor to perfectly look like any drawing anyway; and that indeed the physical characteristics of these characters change drastically even from one artist to the next.

One could argue that MJ's upbringing as a black girl versus a white one would result in a different character. Maybe Peter is attracted to her because of her inherent privilege, or similar cultural heritage (like attracts like, statistically). But if it was never written, we'll never know.

That's the point I was trying to make earlier with the little comprehension test. To argue that MJ's race is a core aspect of the character is to pretty much turn Peter into something he isn't -- you've chosen perhaps the most friendly version of that; the more direct interpretation would of course involve Peter being only interested in white girls. But even with your version, it would involve a major change: one thing he's never had is a penchant for privilege. Note how he interacts with the FF in ASM 8, or with the Avengers in the first Annual, or with Tony in practically every co-appearance. He strives for acceptance and access to establishment, but he strongly dislikes every sign of the privilege that comes with it.

I just want to ask a question and I want a yes or no answer. Is Mary Jane Watson depicted as being a white female and has been for fifty years without deviation, yes or no?

I honestly don't care who they cast. One of the best Romeo and Juliet pieces I have seen was set in modern Miami with a white Romeo and a Cuban girl playing Juliet.
