I would posit that MJ's red hair is in fact ICONIC and as long as that aspect is maintained then I have no problem with Zendaya. And for those who think color is not iconic, then I'm sure you'd have no problems if Spidey's costume were Raindow-colored, right?

...and where is the Rainbow-colored Spidey costume??? And ironically the fact that spidey's costume has changed colors (although never to Rainbow afaik), the fact that MJ's hair has always been RED reinforces my point that her hair color is in fact ICONIC.

By definition, if you change something that is "iconic" then it is no longer representative of the thing that was iconic. In other words, this character would no longer be the Mary Jane from the comics.

Loads of costumes missing from that graphic. Future spidey from the JMS run, several of the recent special suits, and many more.

The fact that she's played by a live actress means it's no longer the Mary Jane from the comics. But that's fine, comic book movies usually acknowledge that they're "based on" the original comics. They don't claim to be exact recreations. (The Star Trek movies and spinoff series do this as well, I believe.)

Of course, but that's beside the point. I was asserting that they are messing with iconography by altering the red hair. You seem to be acknowledging that. So you could understand why people who care about iconography would be unhappy with a change like that. Get it?

Technically the race of this fictitious character was never specified so it was not technically "changed".

Umm, last I checked He was immaculately conceived therefore he is technically not required to be genetically related to either parent....and there is no detailed physical description of Him either. Hence He could have been black for all we know.
