Well, that and the head stays alive for a bit until the lack of oxygenated blood kicks in.

I've read that medical studies of people who suffered decapitations (accidents mainly) that indications are that the brain dies extremely quickly because of massive (almost instantaneous) blood loss and the fact that the brain itself does not suffer from pain......I would still call it about the most merciful (yet visually disturbing)

There's actually been an argument about this for a while. I know at least one execution in California got stopped because the cocktail of drugs was suspected to not actually put the person to sleep before stopping their heart.

Along with the appeals, this is why even Texas has had to slow down on the execution: people don't want to make the drug anymore. And honestly, I think this more than any societal enlightenment is what will lead to the abolishment of the death penalty.

I don't think we should be executing prisoners, even though they may not deserve to live. Not our place to do so.

What's really staggering is how many times Dayton repeats the same words and phrases in his posts. :bergman:

Dayton probably spend his free period viewing beheading videos on Allahakbar.com/jihad.

No. But back when I had a much freer hand at teaching (2nd & 3rd years at Norphlet) I taught some really cool one day units on capital punishment methods.

It was to die for (bad joke but I had to make it).

Though to be fair I thought my unit on serial killers was more interesting. The male students tended to like both of these better than the females.

Does it matter? Who watches anyone get executed in an official capacity unless it's part of your job? It's nothing anyone would enjoy. But "not being able to get the proper injection medications" is pretty lame - sorry but every Walmart I've ever been to sells 12 gauge deer slugs & shotguns to fire them. Thus a firing squad would be the way to go. Point blank range, back of the head with several guns firing simultaneously - foolproof! Don't forget the hearing protection - not for the convicted of course, pretty much a moot point at that stage.

Actually from what I've read the typical firing squad would be five 30-06 rifles mounted and sited in shock frames (to avoid the trigger pullers from feeling the recoil) with three rifles having live rounds and two having blanks. Guns loaded at random by persons not involved in trigger pulling.

Guns assigned at random to five trigger pullers, rifles sited on the heart of the condemned.

so basically fool-proof and instant death - measured in a small fraction of a second. And they will end up just as dead as if given an injection.

If I'm not mistaken, some states allow the condemned to choose their method of execution. Isn't Utah one of those states? I think you can ask to be hanged there.

Anyway, I'm sure the reasoning behind insisting on lethal injection is that it's less shockingly violent that blowing someone's head off with a shotgun. The State has to be mindful of defense lawyers arguing against cruel & unusual punishment and all that jazz.

Like hell. There's a shooting here in Little Rock almost every day now. Two in the last 24 hours within 1000 feet of each other.

I think in many peoples minds the practice of euthanizing animals not only those terminally ill but for simple population control had an impact on peoples thinking. The idea being that "after all, we're giving mere animals a painless death we should do no less for human beings".

Nope. And while leaving the scene of my fender bender was reprehensible, the incident itself was still wholly accidental.

North Korea does it with so much more flare. Execution by field artillery or throwing people into a pit full of starving dogs.
