It was probably going to run in the Kentucky Derby next year given how young Moore likes his phillies. A little equestrian horse racing humor for the people.

Looks like the write in is going to be double the margin. I think Richard Shelby deserves a lot of credit for that. He put state over party and gave on the fence Rs an out.

oh they will certainly win it back in 2020 (Mo Brooks is already printing up campaign signs I'll bet) but this fiasco will prob cost the GOP elsewhere (and the 2020 race will end up being more like 10-12 points instead of the customary 30+)

    https://www.politico.com/story/2010/01/reid-well-wait-on-brown-for-health-care-vote-031734

Harry Reid, in 2010, after the special election of Scott Brown in MA: “First of all, we’re not going to rush into anything,” he said. “We’re going to wait until the new senator arrives until we do anything more on health care.”

What's going to be hilarious is that Moore will absolutely run again and the AL GOP will have to somehow get through the primaries without nominating him.

I will say he will probably run for the house next year. He is a little less dangerous there. That is if he runs. They might just give him a few young girls to sit it out given how he lost to a democrat and they do not want to risk that happening again. I am pretty sure they can bribe him with some party favors to stay out of the national elections and retire at this point. It all depends on his ego which is notably huge but has to have taken a good beating having lost to a democrat and failed like this. Had they run anyone not as sleazy as him the dems would have never won. He has to be feeling a bit like Hillary at this point. The national party is not as forgiving as the local election republicans are. I am pretty sure he will be told to keep his ass home by the national party because they know how poisonous he is at this point, and they cannot afford him flipping another seat blue in Alabama.

Yeah, but they already have a guy in that seat. If he cannot beat the dems for senator he is not going to beat an incumbent gov. They like him but I don't think enough to oust a sitting governor who has not wronged them in some way. I am pretty sure this is the end for Moore. He will be put out to pasture and come out to endorse whoever they run in the state. Maybe Alabama legislature, but I think after the dust settles he will retire and take whatever they toss him. The state is going to have a blue spot for six years because of him. I think the powers that be will have had enough of him mucking things up for them for a while. He can always show off for other events once this shit blows over. I think Roy has gone to the well one too many times at this point for them to risk him for anything other than support and fundraising. I could be wrong. I really though he would squeak it out.

He probably already does that sort of thing. They probably bring contestants over to his house for his personal blessing if you know what I mean. Moore is a pretty big hoss down there. I don't think this will put an end to him being a showpony.

    That's...surprisingly magnanimous from Trump.

But hopefully this makes it more difficult for the GOP to push their poisonous policies through Congress.

Agree that Moore is likely done but:

    1) There isn't a guy in the governor's mansion but a gal.
    2) She wasn't elected but took the seat after our last governor, Bentley, was forced to resign due to some creepy ass geriatric phone sex with his mistress was caught on tape.
    3) Jones will have the seat for three years, not six. Election cycles for Senators don't change even if one is replaced. Sessions won (unopposed) in '14 so the seat will be up fro grabs in '20.

Notice where he calls out the write-in votes. Expect him to go after Shelby, McConnel and the establishment as a whole for getting a Dem elected and putting his priorities at risk.

I believe that I'm going to be held accountable for every action one day. I couldn't, in good conscience, vote for either candidate. So, after prayerfully considering the matter, I abstained. It's the first time in my adult life that I've abstained from a non-primary election. :marathon:

However, I did entertain the notion of writing in Gus Malzhan in the hope that he'd be pulled away from Auburn's Football Program.

    Trump's already backtracking.

Though it is true that Trump did support Luther Strange but he didn't even wait 24 hours to write that tweet.

Doug Jones and the Democrats need to thank all the write-in candidates.

Those people decided that they didn't want to support Moore or Jones.

Hopefully this puts a stake into Steve Bannon as well.

And this also can be blamed on Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump. The GOP establishment wanted Luther Strange. The people of Alabama didn't want Strange, he was an establishment pick, but instead of pushing Strange out, Mitch and Trump went after Mo Brooks. They destroyed Mo Brooks in the primary while thinking there was no way Roy Moore could win but they failed to pay attention to the people of Alabama. The people didn't want Strange so they turned around and choose Roy Moore.

And now a Democrat is the Senator of the State.
