The 18-to-21 change is the most egregious part of the law (and I support the NRA suing to stop it), though the arbitrary waiting period is almost equally objectionable.

The armed teacher option? Ridiculous. Requires 144 hours(!!!!) of training. That's almost a full-time month's worth of days. If anyone has the will to stick with such a course while working full time, it will be months to years before anyone finishes.

I suppose that's the sign of a good compromise: no one is really happy with it.

    Ahem.

    Oh, and ...

    And also ...

    And so on...

Not to mention that, yes, as anyone who's not a completely blinkered moron knows, the effects of adverse actions do carry across more than one generation.

    Bullshit.

They found a small amount of Marijuana.

Who gives a fuck about that?

The NRA should have overlooked the pot. It wasn't important to the story. It's not like Castile had 100 lbs of it on him. (Now a 100 lbs of pot would be important to the story)

The NRA should have just said, "Look the pot was bad, and we do not recommend anyone carry while doing drugs, but even with it present Castile's actions in no way justified that police officer in shooting him."

Instead the NRA foolishly fed itself into the standard retarded leftist narrative that it doesn't care about blacks. The NRA did more damage to itself being quiet than if it had spoken up.

It's cops. The NRA has always been FOP-Lite. They're never going to publicly go against Law Enforcement. Ever. The only time they ever came even remotely close was raising an eyebrow during those few knuckleheads at NOPD following through with illegal confiscations after Katrina.

Throwing a cop, even a bad one, under the bus on the national stage is going to piss off a significant portion of their member base.

Edit: Which, by the way, is interesting. The FOP and Policeone.com are both against an Assault Weapons Ban. For those that don't know, Policeone.com is trying to position itself as the voice of the street cop in the US. Kind of the antithesis of the National Association of Chiefs of Police which produces enough hot air to punch a hole in the ozone layer.

You had to fax or e-mail proof of certification and employment to join Policeone, so you can pretty much trust the stuff that's behind closed doors over there. According to the last poll I saw over there, the vast and overwhelming majority of rank and file street cops are against another Assault Weapons Ban.

I just don't buy that excuse that the NRA saying one cop screwed up would piss off a significant portion of their member base.

Too often groups say something like that and it just turns out to be wrong.

The members aren't a monolithic base. I believe the majority of people would not be angry with the NRA if it said what happened was wrong. I believe that most people think the officer was wrong.

Yeah, I fat fingered the quote. I apologize.

In the absence of a trial and conviction, the NRA is never going to throw a lone cop under the bus in the national media/press. It's just not going to happen. If for no other reason, it would open up one of the wealthiest lobbying organizations in the country to civil liability for defamation, slander, lost wages, or the always fun mental anguish, possibly in a jurisdiction without limits on civil liability.

so Garamet about your "tick, tick, tick" comment. I think it would be interesting to run a thorough non-partisan scientific simulation wherein "gun control" (as defined by a consensus of gun control proponents) is enacted. Yes we've all heard "we don't want ALL guns banned!" and "only CERTAIN guns should be banned" and "charge 100 dollars per round for ammo" and "no more concealed carry" and "repeal the 2nd Amendment" etc.etc. But anyway draw up a set of laws and run a simulation where these laws are enacted across the nation at 12:01 AM EST on Monday 12 March 2018.

Will violent crime rates drop? Will the death rate (from all causes) drop? Will the average person feel safer? Will civil rights be violated? Will the quality of life for the average person improve or be degraded? Will our status as a nation on the world stage be improved or degraded? You get the idea! Any thoughts on what such a simulation might reveal? :chris:

Why does Florida hate young 18-year-old women living alone who want a gun to keep themselves safe from rapists?

Okay, that was the flippant version, but seriously, I've seen lots of comments online and in print from young women in college and/or just living alone with that sentiment. And you sure can't claim an 18 to 21-year-old woman living alone has never been raped and/or murdered.

Yes they do! Five person home invasions are common even in the nice parts of West Tennessee. I WANT my wife to be able to put 30 shots - six per person - down the hall quickly. Better yet, I want her to have another 30 shots available after a quick reload.

Sorry, I didn't bother to read it. I thought it was banning the sale of assault rifles to people under 21 and not all guns.

I would say to my daughter she's safer without a gun. Get a can of pepper spray if she feels threatened, or stay away from drunk jocks. She's 25 and graduated from Barnard in Manhattan. She had internships in Brooklyn. She never felt the need for a gun. She's not paranoid.

I applaud FL's decision, except for the $67million to educate teachers in gunplay. Doesn't go far enough, but tick... tick... tick...

I think a lot of folks who want to limit round capacity have seen too many cowboy movies and cop TV shows. :dayton:
In cowboy movies guys are either shot dead within seconds with one round or it's a very minor superficial flesh wound! Sorry folks it's rarely like that - not many people (or good guys) go out of this world like turning a light switch on-or-off.

Interesting fantasy, given that here in the real world the CDC is forbidden to study existing gun deaths.

Besides, only $100 a round? Chris Rock said $1,000.

    Jesus H. Christ, you're a paranoid asshole.

That's the problem with you gun-strokers. You're fucking paranoid. And nuts. Which is a great combination with loaded weapons.

There's a better probability that your wife will put 30 shots into you and four of your buddies after y'all stagger home following some late-night kiddie-diddling at the local church.

we are borg - you don't quite grasp the difference between "paranoia" and the bitter reality of how guns/bullets function in the real world. Work with me here:
PRETEND you live in a place where an actual home invasion could occur, and the invaders are likely armed, or at least one of the invaders will be because they need a gun for fast intimidation of & compliance by the residents and self defense if need be. With me so far? So you generally have two (or more) young & strong & fast reflexes invaders. And for some reason if they meet armed & ready resistance they will not stand still and wait to get shot. People are funny like that! Thus they will dip & dodge and jump behind furniture & walls. Or they may rush the resident & try to grab their weapon or tackle them & take them off their feet. They might run back out the door from panic and everybody wins! Regardless elapsed time for this about five or ten seconds. Unlike TV & the movies, no catch-phrases, no witty remarks, no dramatic pauses or any of that. Just shit-hitting-the-fan chaos & adrenalin. :scary: Factor in hitting a moving target is very challenging under the best of conditions. Factor in the human body can take a lot of damage before it shuts down completely. Ever hear of being "dead on their feet"? That means being severely, mortally wounded like shot smack-dab in the boiler room and they will die within a minute or less. People can (and do) keep shooting in this condition. Adrenaline is a hell of a drug!

So let me ask you - would you rather have more, or fewer rounds than you think you might need to save your life or the life of others? Would you rather have more or less insurance on your car? Would you rather have more or less food in your house if a blizzard is on the way? If you think the blizzard might makes roads impassable and so you have more food than you need are you paranoid? :chris:Or is it just common sense to not "half ass it" when preparing for a potentially dangerous situation?

Amazing really how displaying even a shred of tactical thinking or planning makes somebody out to be a paranoid gun nut, but a suburban housewife buying a tank-sized SUV because "they need more protection" :drama: if they get in a wreck is just good sense! So who the fuck is paranoid again?

Which is why the NRA will probably win the lawsuit.

The state government could get away with the law that you needed to be 21 to buy a handgun because they could point out that long guns weren't banned for those under 21.

But now everything is banned. All firearms. Pistols, rifles, shotguns. So now you're saying people who are legally adults by law can not own any type of firearm. That's a problem.

And before anyone says it: Alcohol is not in any amendment with the words shall not infringe attached to it. In fact the 21st Amendment Section 2 gives states a lot of power to regulate alcohol in their borders.

I wonder if there is even a grandfather clause in the bill or did Florida just make thousands of 18-20 year old people into felons?
