Dayton's doing that "I once read some second hand info about something vaguely similar to this, so I know better than you" thing. So anyway, now we've seen what happens when the armed good guy does nothing, and what happens when he puts his own safety after the lives of his charges, regardless of the situation he's wading into.
I simply do not require an exhaustive, redundant, peer reviewed six month long investigation before formulating an opinion.
That's exactly what you just did. You write a dialogue, where the 'other side' says three things, none of which are part of the actual discussion.
Really? We didn't just see a bunch of students and teachers protesting and making these exact arguments?
No, not the ones you just faked. Not even remotely. If you disagree, quote them directly, and start with the last one.
I guess you didn’t see the signs, “sacrifice guns, not children”, “train teachers to not shoot guns”, “protect children, not guns”, “protect kids, not guns”, “we need gun control “, etc, etc...
sorry to burst your bubble but even if you (the bad guy) has a gun aimed can you hit what you are aiming at? In other words an experienced shooter can engage a target and fire and hit said target with a quickness. Staying on target longer will not necessarily ensure a hit. And many LEO's shoot more often and with a greater sense of purpose than the average 17 year old. Maturity matters. Speaking from personal experience a 30 year old will shoot circles around an 18 year old - nearly every fucking time. Also realistic training scenarios matter - shooting from a variety of positions matters too: behind barricades, standing up, laying down, walking forward, walking backward, from a moving vehicle, etc. etc. Realistically a 17 year old with a gun drawn and engaging multiple targets is no match for a certified law enforcement officer who only has one focus - take out that one bad guy. It's a fucking cakewalk actually. I wish that's all I would have had to worry about in the sandbox.
Aren't you curious where he stole it from, asshole? Probably some law abiding citizen who left it lying around.
yes steve if Forbin and every rancher in Oregon got rid of their weapons today, this will never ever happen again. You solved the problem!
Listen fuckhead, it would help, but that's your fantasy. What will help is understanding how a 17yo kid wound up with a glock and almost killed two and was killed himself. source
Dayton's "never draw on a drawn gun" "rule" - well, the first rule of a gun fight is have a gun. The second rule is there are no rules. If the bad guy has his gun drawn and is shooting at other people, you got no problem drawing. If the bad guy has his gun drawn an pointed at you, what are you going to do? Stand there and say gee, the rules say that drawing now would be useless and get me killed. Guess what? He's going to shoot you anyway! Ya might as well fucking go for it!
weird when I was 17 I had access to any and all type of guns, as did every other 17 year old where I lived. Yet nobody shot up the joint! What the fuck were we thinking? And yes, I was an ostracized outcast non-athletic unattractive shy bullied loner. Sorry to disappoint but killing folks never crossed my mind.
Also whoever gets off the first shot isn't important anyway - it's whoever gets off the first killing shot that matters!
Here's another thing. "Neutralized" in this context is just legalese. Anyone using it to make things sound all tactikewl and badass is missing the point...although technically it was the threat that was neutralized...not the shooter.
