I don't see how the guard being unregistered (IF that is true) changes any of the material facts. It might reflect badly on the hotel if the guard failed to perform some part of his duty, but I haven't seen anything yet to indicate that.

AND!!!!! Let us not forget that Paddock's house was broken into not only after he was dead in the hotel but after the police "secured" it. They have no idea who or how many people were in the house, how they broke in, or if they took anything. It is possible however that police are so fucking incompetent that someone forgot to turn off a light in the house and the neighbor seeing the light thought someone had broken into the house and called police.
