A quick search of PubMed suggests he works on behavioral psychology and pharmacology, particularly alcoholism or drug addictions. He has some papers on the genetics of this, but the other authors seem more likely to have done that portion of the study. He's got some "self-help guru" thing going on on social media. Probably another instance of "lab coat syndrome" - people think the guy in the white coat can be trusted on a scientific statement when they could be a chemist commenting on astrophysics ie an educated amateur, at best.
Maybe hedh have time for those pursuits if the Canadian government didnt have him locked up as a prisoner of conscience.
I've never even heard of Jordan Peterson? Unless he was that blond headed guy in California who killed his pregnant wife and tossed her in the ocean.
Originally he was some Canadian university professor who received his 15 minutes of fame for whining about the idea that he should use his students preferred pronouns out of basic courtesy, but now he's basically the philosopher king of the MRAs, incels, and generic misogynists. Oh, and Saudi Arabia loves him because he uses made up biology arguments to justify male supremacy.
No that’s not how it started. He has no problem with using preferred pronouns. He has a problem with the government forcing you to use specific words or face the possibility of losing your job and/or going to jail. You thinking he’s the king if MRA, incels, and misogynists only tells me that you have not listened to anything he’s said. And about Saudi Arabia: Right now the Saudis are trying to use Peterson in their little spat with Canada. That’s all.
Saudi Arabia also ignores Peterson’s criticism of the US and SA relationship. They are also ignoring him calling Mohammed a murderous warlord.
Liar. www.theglobeandmail.com/amp/opinion/the-professor-vs-the-pronoun-warriors/article32474079/ "I don't recognize a person's right to determine what pronoun I use to address them." he said in a video he posted to YouTube.
Yeah. Just like Jenee your taking things out of context. He’s saying you don’t have the right to tell him what words he can use. You can ask him but you can’t determine it (force it) for him. In fact reading your link I suggest you go back and read it since you didn’t understand it the first time.
The article I linked to supports him. I'm sure a bunch of his colleagues demand their students call them "Doctor" or "Professor" or what have you, but you don't see him bitching about that. Nor is he bitching about people named William who prefer to be called Bill, or people that prefer to be called by their initials, or women that expect you to refer with them with their married name. No, he's just picking on the weird kids because they're easy targets. For some reason that basic courtesy he extends to everyone else just won't fly here. He's just being a bully and a troll and expecting to be hailed as a hero for it.
Yeah. No. Go watch all the videos on the controversy. He explains it multiple times. There is a significant difference between asking someone to call you "X" and someone passing a law that says you will say "X".
And he's refusing to do it in the face of just being asked, then spewing nonsense about laws to make himself look like a victim.
Interesting but this is the first time I've heard of him in a religious context. I'd be more interested in knowing if/how much his self-help stuff is bullshit.
I listened to the Sam Harris podcast that featured him. He seems to want to define truth as that which is useful rather than that which is the case. I'm unclear on why this kind of woolly thinking has gained him a following.
