    From the transcript:

“GRASSLEY: Yeah. And like we — like we offered to senator — or, to Dr. Ford, you can take whatever time you want now for your opening statement, and then we’ll go to questions. So proceed.

KAVANAUGH: Mr. Chairman, Ranking Member Feinstein, members of the committee, thank you for allowing me to make my statement. I wrote it myself yesterday afternoon and evening. No one has seen a draft, or it, except for one of my former law clerks. This is my statement.”

There’s no intervening questions between then and the screed.

Except the hiring manager just wants to know why the woman in the hallway is saying that she remembers you being at a party with her and taking advantage of her. Isn't that worth investigating? Especially if this job is one that an employee accepts for life? One that the employee will be using their sound judgment by which to make decisions? When you're up for that kind of job, everything related to one's character is up for debate.

Because I've read your recent posts, I know this isn't coming from the same place as our known partisan hacks.

However, it's worth pointing out that the instances where people have put out rewards to anyone who would speak up on an attack from a politician that rarely does someone take that up. In the one instance someone did take up the offer to admit to having an affair for money, the guy admitted it was true.

You literally can't pay victims to come forward because the stigma is that strong. And the big reason most of the 3 percent of false accusations get outed is because there's already the presumption that survivors are lying anyway. Samantha Geimer pointed out this was literally SOP at the LAPD during the 70s when she was tried Roman Pulanski was tried. These instances don't help but they aren't adding that much fule to the raging inferno either. It's a statistical wild goose chase to presume most survivors are liars.

Well, when I jumped it it was about how he handled himself during the hearing...not whether he was guilty of sexual assault or not...but the answer would be the same. "Screw you guys. I'm going back to the bench of the 2nd highest court in the land."

Yes, I suppose he could have jumped onto the table, peed all over it, and demanded that every woman in the chamber suck his dick. Which I'm sure would have caused a certain subset of "Christians" to like him even more.

But even Dekes can learn to mask their true character a little bit, given a few decades of practice.

I don't know, a lot of people were talking about his stance on the 4th Amendment and how shitty it was before Dr. Ford came forward. That alone should have been enough to disqualify him.

I was talking about his behavior, and the circumstances around his confirmation hearing. This is for the Supreme Court, the ones that make the laws of the land the Law of the Land. I didn't have a real issue with John Roberts. Even though I disagreed with him, he seemed like a reasonably balanced, even keeled individual. Kavanaugh, though? He acts like everyone has turned against him, starts throwing petulant answers back at his interviewers, doesn't know how much alcohol is too much, has a sexual assault allegation being leveraged against him, along with two other women, and yet he seems upset that things aren't going swimmingly. To me that is great cause for concern. I mean, this is the best the GOP could offer?

I actually heard Mitch McConnell on TV say Kavanaugh was "the best America has to offer".

Jesus fuck, burn it all down then.
Drop the asteroid, the gamma ray burst, the type 10 Earthquake, the Yellowstone volcano, whatever it's gonna be.
    End it now.
If that were literally true, end this failure of a species right this fucking second.

I know, it's just Turtle-Man saying something mind-meltingly stupid to lullaby The Deplorables.

Yeah, I know, most of us realize when McConnell says stuff like that, he's saying it's the best America's going to get while they're getting fucked up the ass without lube, but there are people out there who will take his word at face value.

Let me be clear here: I love to see liberals in pain if that pain is related to politics, and specifically to their choice of liberalism which makes their pain self inflicted. I certainly don't like to see anyone in pain of a personal nature.

What if those politics do cause them pain for reasons other than losing their pick aside from some sports team type situation? Shouldn't an LGBT person be concerned if their candidate lost to someone who is favor of denying them housing? You find that funny?

Does being in favor of denying them housing result in them actually being denied housing? Wouldn't this be a case of housing discrimination by a landlord or financial institution or some other entity that can be taken to task and sued by the LGBT person?

Whether or not they can sue depends on the law, which is determined by the people we elect to office.

Depends upon who is in charge of the law's interpretation. That would fall under the purview of, well, the courts. Load the courts with people who find it agreeable to deny LGBT people housing, and there you have it. It's not hard to institutionalize something.

    As for the speech...

...he got the job, didn't he?

He was never going to win over the Democrats anyway, and it may have helped shore up support on the Republican side.

The SNL opening skit was disappointing. I had hoped they would go as over the top as they did when Trump won, but it was this muted, despondent, unfunny skit.
