I'm missing something here. An unarmed black man (Emmett Till) was murdered No charges were brought against anyone. and you think that was appropriate?
Till's murderers were charged. They were acquitted, but, since they subsequently admitted their role, their guilt is not in doubt.
Watch the video. The two men are seen trying to intercept Arbery to question him. No aggressive move is made toward Arbery. Arbery is shot only after charging the younger McMichael. There is no lynching, there is no attempted lynching.
I think "lynching" in 2020 means "in the spirit of lynching" - vigilante justice towards blacks sanctioned by a corrupt, racist system. But instead of a rope they used guns (who the fuck besides myself * knows how to tie a decent hangman's noose?) to do it. * job related skill you smart asses!
WTF is this, sesame street? This would still add up to murder no matter how you slice it. No rope was involved. A terrible act, but not a lynching. Guarantee this goes to court all kinds of charges will be filed against the killers but "lynching" won't be one of them.
Hang around long enough and I'll show you! If I don't remember the old saying..."no noose is good news!" Seriously I was one multi-talented motherfucker when I was in the military.
This is true, a lynching should involve a tree. This is just a bunch of white dudes chasing a black man in their pickup with a bunch of shot guns and then shooting him for jogging in their neighborhood. It is more like one of those hunts where they shoot the animal when it is in a pen and cannot escape or fight back, and they have their friend film it and show the video off to people along with having their sister publish the pictures of the dead carcass because they are so proud of what great white hunters they are. But not a lynching. I am not sure of how much of a difference it makes in the end, or why it would bother someone that they called such a thing a lynching.
Woo....you have to go back to Emmett Till to come up with an example of vigilante white "justice" that you think was unjustified?
How many actual examples of "vigilante white justice" can you come up with that are common knowledge anyway? Specifically, recent ones.
No, that's just the only name I knew off the top of my head. And the question asked was have I ever felt there was an instance of unjustified white vigilantism against blacks, so one example was sufficient to answer the question.
Algiers Point militia - several shootings of blacks following Katrina because they "had the look" of looters.
If the term "lynching" gets some people upset, how do they feel about Murder by Cop? ‘Completely and Utterly Messed Up’: Video of Fatal Arrest Shows MPD Officer Kneeling on Man’s Neck for at Least 7 Minutes
That's pretty awful, but not exactly common knowledge. I've never heard of that before and I had to look it up.
I don't know about the qualifiers of "common knowledge" or "recent." For instance, I don't know if this case has yet crossed into "common knowledge," and my main point was it probably shouldn't take till the 50s to come up with examples. Bernard Goetz was in the 80s, but maybe some might think his actions justified.
Murder by Cop would be the appropriate thing in this case. Just morons. They both deserve murder charges.
Goetz was probably justified in his initial use of force, but he crossed the line at "You seem to be doing okay, here's another." Legitimate self-defense does not allow for a coup de grace. In any case, I don't view this as white vigilantism because, from what I understand, Goetz was minding his own business until the youths involved began to intimidate him. He was no less justified in going on the offensive than Arbery.
And being a rapper is not an automatic license to ill. The lesson here is that not everyone can be James Bond or a Beastie Boy.
it depends on the state in which you reside for the most part, and their definition of "attacked". If you are 70 years old and two healthy young men slam you to the ground (thus an "attack") and begin kicking you in the head and testicles would you shoot them if you had a gun? Asking for a friend!
Tell your friend he’s an idiot. We all have a right defend ourselves with reasonable force. Reasonable force in the case of your “friend” is obviously different than if a teen ager tries to trip him up for shits and giggles.this happened to ny co owner just after turned 70. Al used a basic leg trap to put that punk down straight on his ass and kept on walking. Your “friend” would be justified in taking more extreme measures, but we al have an obligation to stop once the threat is ended. Of course “stand your ground laws” mss a &change that, but even then I would say we still have that obligation to stop when the threat is over even if it isn’t legally required. It sounds to me like your “friend” just wants to be able to kill somebody without fear of consequences.
If the attack is without lawful cause and it is a reasonable threat to one's life, yeah, it kinda is. It certainly means one can use all reasonable force--including deadly force--to stop the attack.
Well, they've been fired at least. https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/en...e-floyd_n_5ecd6b6fc5b61682e552c2df?ri18n=true Now let's see the union refuse them help with legal representation.
