The longer I think on it, the more I think it's a highly convenient cover to get out of the 2nd debate. I find it hard to believe he wasn't tested the day of the debate and that he doesn't get same-day test results.

He's substantially behind in the polls, so sitting out debates doesn't help him one bit - even if there are also downside risks.

 

Yes it was. Frankly, I didn't find the main gotcha line as despicable as the reports say -- it's very infelicitous phrasing, but the content is that she tried to help the kids, couldn't because the legal process failed, and is exasperated that she is expected to solve that problem, which is frankly fair enough as far as it goes. Of course, she could have gone against her husband and demand privately or publicly that legality be restored, but she's not running for office and isn't a politician; it's hard to fault her for not having any of the moral backbone or personal competence to do that when the whole rest of the country has also failed.

 

Nah, fuck her. She made the choice to stand by him publicly and sure she wouldn't be living the billionaire lifestyle if she left (even if it is to a large extent an illusion) but there would be plenty of people willing to help ensure she wasn't destitute if she chose to speak out.

Oh, totally. But none of that is new information; it does not follow from this audio clip. There's this shock state in liberal democracies where we keep pretending being surprised by the same atrocities over and over again. We know that the Trump government tortures refugee children, in some cases to death, and has disappeared thousands of them. Ms. Trump has stood with that policy and with her husband. That suffices for moral judgement, and at the same time, judging her is completely irrelevant. What is truly tasteless is the idea that if she had said something more palatable, that would have changed the morality of the situation. Nothing she could have said would do that.

 

Trump of course may be lying about his results. But if so, for once, his lies might do some good.

Hopefully, even the most brainwashed among his followers will realize that if the president can get infected with COVID-19 with all the resources at his disposal and the ability to screen people around him to a far greater degree than you or me, so can they. Hopefully they realize the pandemic isn't a hoax and that most of the things that he has said about it have been untrue.

If it's genuine, I straight-up don't know how to feel. I want to be bigger than schadenfreude, but I don't knw that I can be. I don't want the bad karma of wishing people ill, but his actions and inactions just in the coronavirus area alone were a strong factor in the death toll we have now of over 200,000 Americans dead.

Hope dies last, but note how his messages leave space for most of the conspiracy theories: the test might still be a hoax; and if it isn't, the virus might still be harmless.

 

But that motherfucker will have access to the best medical care in the country, something that tens of millions of Americans don't have.

 

This could be a case where he is, cynically or not, going for a heel-face turn. It could be a case like with many conservatives something just isn't real until they are personally affected by it. Or it could be a ploy. He knows his bungling of the coronavirus has hurt him politically. So now that he "has it," he canhave an epiphany and take it seriously. "The Invisible Enemy is more dangerous than I thought! But we will beat it just like I beat it."

Or it could be a continued heel-heel action where he says "See this proves it's a hoax! Your favorite President had it and it was no worse than a cold! Let's open everything!"

A page and a half, and no one has yet suggested that Trump receive the best available cure: injecting disenfectant into his body, and putting UV lights into him as well. He's the one who wanted that tested, after all...

I guess it's a function of my job, working with frontline healthcare providers servicing sick people, I personally know 4 people that have died from COVID-19. And while they had pre-existing conditions for sure, none of them are what anyone would consider "sick people." Considering the President's pre-existing conditions and the reports of his diet, I fear he may be in grave danger even with the best healthcare in the world.

... Assuming that any of this is true. The fact that this is a valid question is asinine.

That has yet to be determined.

It is pretty obvious that his aid had it already, since the next evening she was showing symptoms. But whether Trump already had is not known.

My guess is that Biden is going to be tested urgently now. And to be safe, there should be tests a couple of days apart, since tests apparently do not always show it if you have only been infected for 24 hours or so.

 

Maybe I'm being unfair, but I think Trump only cares for himself, Ivanka, Barron, Donald Jr. and Eric, and possibly not the last two.

 

And the 2nd in an unnatural way.

 

Even if he doesn't get serious symptoms, that will happen. And it isn't hard to figure out how it goes:

1) This is "an attack from Satan".
2) The fact that Satan has such power in America is because of the widespread tolerance of liberals, socialists, LGBT, and other undesirables.
3) If Trump doesn't get seriously ill, that will show how God's protection is on him, and the power of prayer to overcome Satan, and so on.
4) If he does get seriously ill, that will show just how deep the rot of point number 2 actually is.

 

Fox and other right wing outlets are already attempting to rouse the sympathy vote. Of the small number of undecided voters left, who would vote for Trump simply because he got COVID? It’s really straining credibility, considering how he has acted going back to February.

On the other hand, despite never exercising and having spent decades cramming cheeseburgers down his gullet, he has yet to suffer a massive coronary (that we know of). His teflon nature may extend to his health.
