Seems like every day for the last three weeks I'm reading something new about the GOP trying to suppress or cancel votes Absolutely embarrassing How are these clowns going to call themselves pro Democracy ever again, I do not know
I don't know what's more shocking, the fact that Republicans are pulling this shit or that a large segment of America agrees with them.
They just want to keep the elections fair and...uhhh...free of fraud! And if that means Trump gets an advantage, all the better!
This has been part of the Republican strategy for quite a few decades, they're just being way more obvious about it this year. I've also been seeing Trump/Republicans making a fuss about not all votes getting counted on election day, and that anything tallied after that shouldn't count. This is a huge gaslight because I don't think we've ever had same-day election results of all ballots cast. It's physically impossible when states don't start reporting until after polls have closed, and because two states (Hawaii and Alaska) don't close their polls until well after midnight on the East Coast. Not to mention it's logistically impractical. What we've had are news media outlets reporting the percentage of ballots cast along with a comment that it's most likely that one candidate is going to win a particular state, and then extrapolating the electoral college from there (e.g. even if it's clear one candidate overwhelmingly won a state, we still continue counting any pending ballots). But we've never had all ballots tallied before midnight on election day.
The drive thru's were approved by the state(Republicans) so.......screw the activists who don't like it. It's legal. Interestingly enough, lefties were "worried" when the Governor appointed Ruth Hughs to be Secretary of State just last year. Perhaps that fear will change? Doesn't sound like Texas is trying to stifle the vote from where I'm sitting.
Do appeals courts hear cases like this en banc, or will it be a panel? It looks like there is a Republican majority on the Fifth Circuit, but not a Trumpublican one.
Couple of random anecdotes. Out doing errands a while ago, and saw a van with an American flag and another banner I couldn't make out until it got closer. In this part of the world, I expected Biden/Harris. Nope. Trump/Pence. No fleet of vigilantes surrounding it. No one honking at it or shouting obscenities. If they wanted attention, they should have gone with a Dodgers' banner. Checking up on the MAGAZombie cadre on FB, one has posted "absolute proof" (a YouTube video from a group I've never heard of) that the Terrorist Mob BLM is planning a revolution Any Minute Now. Another said she's voting for Trump "to save the unborn babies." Um, Sweetie? You know that's St. Amy of Glossalalia's job, right? Nope, apparently the Great God Trump has the power to stretch forth his hand and destroy Roe v Wade.
So, Charlie Angus is an old school Eugene Debs, Billy Bragg type of socialist who's been the MP for a huge chunk of northern Ontario for a few sessions now. He was also a bit of a folk punk back in the day, which might help explain why he respects other people's property.
J.G. Hertzler, a.k.a. General Martok, will be a poll watcher in his Upstate NY district. I resisted the urge to suggest he go in makeup and uniform, but he's an impressively large man, and no Trumpenweenie will mess with him.
Republic not democracy! Founders made it this way for a reason! What do you want instead, the majority ruling over the minority!?! [/Lanz]
5th largest economy in the world, #1 in tech, entertainment, agriculture and dairy in the US. Only issue I can see is fresh water. But yeah, CA would do fine.
As to the election itself, I have to say I'm feeling pretty good about the chances of getting rid of Trea45on tomorrow. Even if it takes a week or even two to tabulate all the results. Turnout is through the roof. And that's never good for the GOP. Youth turnout in TX for example is up 600%. I guess I'm still optimistic that the better angels of our nature will guide us as a whole. The phrase 'Of the people, for the people, by the people' keeps coming to mind.
