Part of me hopes he needs to be dragged kicking and screaming from the White House.

In a fucked up way maybe it’s good that Republicans outside of Trump did well this election.

They are not going to support his claims that the election was a fraud and a cheat. Because if Democrats were cheating Mitch would be gone too. They are going to dump Trump like a bad habit.

Now the only way the country can ever reunite is if the Republicans cast off all the white supremacists and conspiracy nuts and goes back to the Reagan/Bush/McCain/Romney style of conservatism.

Those are guys I disagree with but I don’t think they are evil or racist or crazy. I can agree to disagree with folks like that.

Guys like Trump/Bannon/Miller/Kobach/Steve King.... nope, I’ll never see eye to eye with a bunch of immigrant hating racists. If Republicans want to win back folks you have to start there.

Anyone think oldfella will show his face in the Red Room ever again?

He was the one who was saying Trump would win in a landslide.

It’s ok dude, you can admit you were wrong.

The very first baby steps to start the healing process in America:

    1. Republicans need to speak up now to repudiate anything that comes out of Trump's mouth.

    2. On January 21, 2021, Democrats need to instruct the DOJ to go after Trump, his family and his inner circle with extreme prejudice. I don't need to list Trump's misdeeds here (it would crash the board) and I'm not suggesting the DOJ act outside the law. If it turns out there's nothing to charge them with, then there's nothing.

But Trumpism needs to die. NOW.

Biden speeches are all going to be about unity and bridging the divide. If he can’t accomplish anything else in his term at least that would be something.

Problem is Obama tried to be nice and bipartisan and they wouldn’t reciprocate. They didn’t show him any respect for 8 years and allowed the birtherism shit to continue and fester.

The difference being Biden was in Congress for a LONG time and was VP for eight years. Most of the congresscritters know Unca Joe and have at least grudging respect for him. Obama was a one-term Senator before winning the White House and did not have that record with Congress.

What’s the margin a candidate has to win by so it doesn’t trigger a recount?

Doesn't mean they shouldn't have at least attempted to work with him.

Don't be that guy. Don't try to make it something it wasn't. Lots of presidents in the past never worked in Congress, nor had a longstanding political career.

In this election it depends on how many tantrums the Asshole-in-Chief throws, how much air-time the media gives him, and how many conspiracy theories can sprout out of the shit he's flinging.

Biden is facing a pretty hostile Senate majority, by the looks of things. That many of those Senators know and respect him may make it easier for him to get around McConnell's bullshit.

ABC, NBC and CBS set a great precedent by cutting him off last night. They should continue that trend.

Depriving him of attention will eventually make him wither and die.

We'll see. The Haskert rule makes it extremely difficult to get anything done even if you get help from the other party without the majority leader.

Quite fitting it's named for a child molester.

I still have some hope that the Dems win the runoffs in GA.

It will be harder for the GOP to suppress the mail vote this time through Dejoy.

Here's what the Constitution actually says about it:
So yeah, the state legislatures are responsible for conducting their elections but the Congress can override them.

And then the Twelfth Amendment says this about Presidential elections:
If you parse all that it basically says once the state electors have made their decisions, they transmit them to Congress where they're counted and officially certified. Any ties or other difficulties are then settled in the House.

And just between you and me, I had a few minutes during this election where I was desperately afraid that the decision might wind up in the House. :calli:

Ok. That's a different statement than the previous one - intentional or not. But, I agree with the second statement.

But, that's not the reason Congress refused to work with Obama. If it was, they would have done the same to Reagan and W. Bush.

Part of it was that but part of it was timing. Local newscasts were set to begin at the top of the hour and that's about the time they dumped out of Trump. If he'd started at the bottom of the hour like he was supposed to, I'm guessing broadcast would've stayed with him longer.

So this will be the first time in 60 something years that Ohio did not predict the outcome of the presidential election.

Its no longer a battleground state, a swing state, or a bellwether state.

Texas, Georgia, and Arizona all voted more blue than Ohio. Demographic changes indeed.
